Due to the interest in the FJ60 rear bumper kits I have been offering (https://forum.ih8mud.com/merchandise-storefront/343628-fj60-62-rear-bumper-kits.html), I have been working on an FJ80 design and am getting close to making a few (within the next couple months). I wanted to find out if there was any interest from the forum for these kits?

The design differs slightly from the FJ60 kit in that some of the parts will be bent and would not require as much welding as the FJ60 kits do. They will also offer 1/4 protection as well. Pricing has not been determined yet, but would imagine it will be more money than the FJ60 kit (330 plus shipping). The design is would also use the same trailer spindles/bearings/etc identified in the thread for the FJ60 kits. Would use 1/2" thick recovery points that would be bolted straight to the frame rails (requires removal of the factory bumper mount). The current design is built around a 92 FJ80 and not sure if the FZJ80 vary at all (perhaps someone can chime in here).

Would like to get a count of those who might be interested. Obviously, the price would help, but don't have that just yet. The more folks I have on board, the cheaper I can get them for.

Here is a teaser pic from CAD.

Still need to add the tire carrier.

Would a 24 gallon sub tank fit (on my wish list)w/this bumper.? Depending on the price too.

Interested!!!!! Keep the info coming!

My original plan was to use 3/16" on the main section and use 1/4" for the quarter protection. Any input from the group? All the 60 series bumpers that I have sold are all 1/4" and are perhaps over built, but I personally like that.

The cad drawing you posted looks like the side protection has be shaped around the fender flares. FZJ80 flares are larger than FJ80 flares. Also you may want to have an option for a flareless truck or a single design that works for all three options.

I really wish I had an FZJ80 to work with. I might have to do a second design (quarter protection) to accommodate the FZJ80. Wanna drive to Idaho Falls? The FJ80 flare terminates at the mud flap. This curvature meets just below the fender flare. I will try to get some pics of this the next time I have the FJ80 around (truck belongs to someone local to me/fellow mudder).

I'd love to drive to ID Falls but don't have the time.

If it is below the flare where the flap was it's probably OK. The other thing I'd like to see and maybe other too would be enough material there to add a 1.5" tube hoop for additional rear quarter protection. Much like Slee's design. Not something I'd need supplied personally just room to do so. (I have a bender).

Other thoughts... Receiver option with a cut out for the trailer wiring. Maybe select a Toyota trailer plug from a Tundra or Tacoma and design around that. Something with a 4 & 7 pin option. If you use a Toyota part one should be able to replace it down the road if damaged. The same "universal" from the auto parts store may not be around in the future.

There should be enough material that to add a 1-3/4" diameter tube at an angle to offer some protection. That widest dimension on the wings is about 2" wide at that point.

As far as trailer hitches go, I am really nervous about liability in adding a trailer hitch. Additionally, adding a hitch to this bumper would require removal of the rear cross member. I designed it with the thought that the end consumer wouldn't have to modify the truck much.

The vertical face will have four holes to utilize the factory threaded holes in the bumper cross member.

So does the design of the rear quarter protection on this bumper kit work for am lx 450? or does it require the plastic trim on the bottom of the quarter panel to be removed?

I'll try to add a photo, it might only be a problem if the hoops are added.

Thoughts?
