G52 is a PITA to shift

if you're tranny's going, a w56 is an easy swap and huge upgrade.

clampy had chunks in the bottom of his g52, so i picked up a w56 w/tcase for 300, had it bolted in a couple of hours later.

would i be able to tell if the slave is bad just by pushing the pedal and seeing if the thing pushes out like it should? also what kind of pistol is that? i can't tell if it's a glock, springfield, or what it is but i looks nice. my dad's got a kimber TLE II .45 ACP and a SW 1911 carry pistol made of scandium.

It's a H&K USP .40  I shoot it whenever I can. I wouldn't mind a Kimber for a carry weapon. :grinpimp:

I would think one of the symptoms would be leaking. I don't know if they can not leak and still be bad.

Mine leaked very little, not even noticeable, didn't see the level going down in the reservoir even... and was bad enough to not allow it to shift very well.

What she said... if you decide to not re-install your g52.

I have a w56 sitting in my garage waiting to be installed.....

nice! we pretty much go shooting when we can to. we actually belong to a club that has a private range in the middle of nowhere that you can shoot anytime anything except at night and automatics for 60 bucks a year.

i'm not sure if it is leaking. it's definetly not letting fluid level go down so far. i'll get back to you if we decide to not put the G in. how much would you want for it if we did decide to go that route? so why did toyota use a different tranny for Fuel injected trucks from carbed?

don't know if you've got what clampy was. clampy was the bare bones minimum, which meant crappy 4spd. the g52 is a weak trans..plain and simple. i had the minimum gauge package, no power windows/locks, no ac, bench seat, carbed...at least i had carpet (although pretty crappy since it was shop truck).

i've never had a tranny go in as simply as the w56 did. it's like clampy was screaming for a five speed. ;)

well i'm pretty sure i figured out what the deal is. i tested the slave today and then the clucth assy together and put it on my 20 ton press and when i pressed down on the springs the plate didn't lift off of the clutch so i'm pretty sure that's what i need. so i'm getting a new clutch, pressure plate, bearings, oil seal and possibly flywheel.

Sweet!

Keep us informed.

without even seeing it, i am pretty sure you dont need a flywheel. take it down to a machine shop as suggested, it should be free to check if it is machinable, and the cost to machine it will be like 1/3 the cost of a new flywheel.

yeah that's what i was thinking. if i do need a new one should i get one from orielly's or what.

yeah i know but i've already ordered all of what i need from them and it's hopefully all coming at once so i can just put it all in and be done. but should i need a new flywheel i don't want to have to wait for another 5 days and neither does my dad.

You should be able to pull the flywheel, take it to a machine shop, get it surfaced and be back home in an afternoon.

I came across one on craigslist. I bought it and had it surfaced. This way, when I do my clutch job this winter, I don't have to worry about getting it done.

cool. i've got it pulled and everything so i guess i'll take it tomorrow or friday and just maybe my stuff will be here on sat or monday.

hey guys i'm having trouble getting the alluminum thing around the rear main seal off. i've got the seal it's self off but i've got the gasket for the plate and i've got all the bolts off including the ones from the oil pan. is there more than just the two from the oil pan or what?

lol, i had the same problem when i did the rear main in my bros 93 3.0 pickup. are there 2 studs sticking down thru the flange on the oilpan? if so, get a pair of vicegrips on them and unscrew them, then the seal retainer should come out. FYI, if it wasnt leaking from that gasket, then there was no reason to remove it, just R&R the rear main.

well i would just replace the main but i've already unbolted the retainer and i don't know if i've damaged the gasket on the back while trying to get it off so i want to replace it and use it 'cause i paid 11.50$ for the gasket and oil seal. and it's just two bolt from the bottom as far as i know of. could it be that the retainer is stuck to the sealer i used on the oil pan gasket? i guess i'll go out and try again. also if anyone has any pointers on getting the pilot and throwout bearings off i'll be doing that soon as well.

for the pilot bearing, you can fill the chamber behind it with grease and find something that will fit snugly in the bearing, like a drift or a large center punch. tap it with a hammer, the grease will force the bearing out, but you will have to refill the grease pretty often. or you can try and find a slide hammer with the correct attatchment.

can you get a picture of the seal retainer?

If the grease trick doesn't work, you can do the same with bread, just takes longer...

Here's the retainer:
