Apparently Toyota has discontinued the fusible link for my 62. Part # 90982-08251 anyone know where to get one? I searched but all threads where older and the discontinued it back in 2012 the Toyota parts guy said. I even tried to order it online from a Toyota place only to get an email saying it was discontinued and I got my money back. Has anyone purchased a new one recently? I searched the parts section on here but didn't find one.

Just get some more fusiable link wire from NAPA or the like. Easy fix.

Or, replace it with a circuit breaker.

If you want OEM, try amayama. Some info from beno about them here.

I tried to rebuild it, I have the link apart. I'm out of town now(so I can't work on it), but I was having issues finding matching metal connectors that go inside of the plastic housing. The wires are all rubbed bare and exposed, so they need to be replaced totally. I think the fusible link wire is 16 gauge?

Amayama looks pretty sweet. I put in a request for the part. Interested to see what they come back with.

I bypassed the entire fusible link and used a resettable circuit breaker. Less headache for me at least.

There are threads with the correct gauge fusible like wire, by Dorman, to use for the different colors of FL in the OE link. Reuse the spade connectors by inserting a paperclip in to the plastic connector housing to release the terminals.

Uncrimp and re-crimp on the SAME LENGTH of replacement FL wire.

There are threads where I've posted pictures of this and part #s for the Dorman replacement FL wire.

Kinda be nice if it were in the FAQ, but hey, this only the 60 section... ;)

Find the thread with the part #'s and the lengths of the FL wire.

I'll add it to the FAQ

If it goes in the FAQ, I'll edit the part #s as the 9" section Dorman no longer sells (though they may be available elsewhere) and one of the pix with 14ga FL is not correct.

I have the Dorman packages for the 18 ga (RED wire in factory FL) and 20 ga FL wire (green FL wire) hanging in the garage and I'll post those, too.

Done..

Hi, Did you find the spade connectors some where ? Mike

I actually did find spade connectors that work inside the existing housing, but I had to buy a "kit" from a Malaysian seller on ebay. Never found anything local, but you can prolly find something Toyota sells that would work. There's a wire harness repair manual pdf somewhere on MUD that has part numbers for all the bits and pieces to repair wiring harnesses.

You could also just wire each FL piece individually with waterproof connectors.

Or, appropriate circuit breakers, but I've read conflicting things about replacing FL with CB's but I don't know enough about auto electric to know what's accurate vs internet chest thumping...

I just bought some rolls of fusible links and made my own.

Think Kevin Rowland had built his own out of a few different 25amp fuses. I remember him posting about it but he did not put it in his build thread (if I remember correctly). When i replace my battery cables I am going to have to seriously look at mine because the terminal it is connected to on the battery is pretty shot and the wires were not very well "attached."

So from my understanding fusible link is just a really slow blow fuse. On the modern Cruisers they have replaceable blade type links that are more common. So do we know what the amp rating of each link is? Are all 3 rated at 25 amps?

On our CTD, with several fusible links, I did something similar to what Benjamin did. Only I terminated both ends of the link at the terminal strip and made up one of each as an extra and have them on the end set of terminals on the strip.

There are slow-blow breakers out there. If you're determined to go with breakers I'd suggest finding those instead of the std breaker. The whole idea is to allow for things like blower motor starting in-rush currents that momentarily exceed the 'fuse' rating without popping it.
