I picked up a 1999 100 about 3 weeks ago and we've been trying to start the engine on starter fluid. Each time, and using a charged battery, when the key is turned systems light up but once the key is turned to energize the starter all systems go dead. We found that the Main 100 amp fuse was missing. I bought a replacement that I think fits but I could not press it into the location. So I decided to pull one of the other fuses to check it against the new one, but only destroyed the installed fuse.
Is there a trick for removing fuses and for installing fuses.
There's no fuse in that slot on US trucks.
Ok so i was poking around checking fuses and what not and noticed that the box next to the positive battery terminal should have in order from top to bottom 7.5 (ALT-S), 100a (Main), 140a (ALT)and another 100a (J/V No.2) The fuse I am "Missing" is the Main fuse... now a long time ago I was told if its not broken don't touch it but its bugging me! My questions should it be missing? Should I throw in 100a fuse in the empty spot? Thanks in advance for the advice! See pictures for better idea of what I am talking about...
As for the other one that's broken, they're screwed in underneath on the terminals.
I would try jump starting from a running vehicle. A used/charged battery may not have enough to kick the starter over. More than a few times here someone's posted that their battery tested good, wouldn't start the truck, but a new battery solved it.
