The day after we got back to GA, we removed the sliders and front bumper, unloaded the rear bumper and rattle-canned them all black. (The rear bumper and sliders will remain off until some 4.88s and a tranny cooler are added)

These seat covers were in the load of items included in the sale...they get an A for fit...one of the cinch-straps broke during install (easy enough fix) and they do make for a very sweaty backside compared to stock cloth.

The front harness was a bit of a mess and the DS parking light and blinker was inop. Max rewired the front end, soldering all connections and utilizing some of the connectors that came with the new (aftermarket) clear blinkers and parking lights.

Adventure Copan did a great job of tweaking the front bumper to accept OEM blinkers. All wired-up, everything works and looks pretty good.

Update: Max has officially changed Pepe's name to:

Furiosa

Also, any leads on a front/rear pair of Toyata Axel Code G144 4.88 complete third members is appreciated.

I'd just regear your diffs. 4.88's are a funky gear from Toyota and IIRC they can't be regeared due to the way toyota manufactured them. I believe they're thinner than your standard gear.

All true...but if the G144s can be sourced, it's about 1/4 the cost.

I helped drop off Furiosa at a local 4x4 shop that we trust. The list of things to be accomplished:

Install rear OME shocks
Install Heater Valve Assembly
Check heater system/AC system to determine further actions
Replace front-end bushings (the rotten or missing ones)
Check all fluids, possible flush/refill of tranny
Rotate/Balance tires and check front-end alignment

Quote parts/installation of 4.88s

Lock on Tuffy center console was inop...wouldn't lock. Weird, as it is new...and serial number on both keys matches number on lock.

Rather than go round and round with Tuffy, Max ordered a new lock and keys for $20.

Snorkel hook-up and lock install after it gets out of the shop.

Update:

4.88s didn't work out. Got the A/C up and running, heater valve replaced, OME rear shocks installed, new rotors and pads up front.

Road Trip to Florida Beaches

On the return, radiator split a seam, engine overheated and blew head-gasket. Tear-down revealed engine was in pretty poor shape.

New 22RE being installed
New heater core

Max is a newly-wed and, as it stands, this rig will be for sale this spring...likely on the Fort Benning "Lemmon Lot" where all of the outbound active duty guys sell their cars.

He is hoping the fun of driving it topless this spring will recalibrate his wife's enjoyment and suppress the memory of recent expenditures.

At any rate, a new 4Runner TRD Pro will likely take the spot in the garage next to the 87.

What happened to the 4.88's? Sad to see that he may be selling it soon, especially after putting this money into it for a new engine.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Hate to hear all that!! Sadness!!!

Differing opinions on whether they were usable as-is. Probably should have bit the bullet and bought new gears from the jump...especially when he was hiring the work done anyway...used pumpkins are better left to the guys that do that kind of wrenching for themselves.

If he has his way, he'll keep it...just needs to get the new wife (who is awesome) to fall in-love with it again.
