Ok I have a minor leak at the seam of my fuel tank, I know NAPA sells a repair kit for such things. My question is do I repair, replace with new or used?

you could replace it with a 42 gal LRA tank from Cruiser Brothers.......

fuel tank

Guess not much has happened or caught on fire in 8 months.
Correct, sir.
  1. I am still an idjit
  2. Tanks are rolling
  3. No fires
We have sold around a hundred tanks during the roll-out period and things seem to be going well - mostly due to Georg, LRA, great shop partners and some patient and tolerant customers.

I had a small leak in the tank of my 80 that was caused by a small crease from a rock. Tried the JB Weld tank repair kit and it lasted 1 wheeling trip before failing.

To repair... Dropped the tank (what a bitch), drained it, filled it with water (about half) just below the 1/4" long crack, blew a steady stream of nitrogen into the tank while welded a bead to close up the hole. May have been overkill to not ignite any left over fumes but really didn't want to set us on fire. LOL.

How is operation of the factory fuel needle with the 40 gallon replacement tank?

I have a used one that I just removed to install the long range tank in my '99. $100+Shipping from FL, should do.

You weld extensions onto the bracket and float rod. The gauge operates normally, just much slower.

From the LRA instruction package for the 100 Series replacement as follows..

3. Remove the fuel pump assembly from the OE tank and lengthen the fuel pump frame with the bracket provided also lengthen the float arm by 75mm using the 95mm length of rod, this allows for a 10mm overlap on the joins. Lengthen the fuel pump wires by soldering and using fuel resistant heat shrink tube. Extend the return line on the pump assembly with the 95mm length of 8mm rigid plastic tubing and the joiner. This allows the return line to reach to bottom of the tank. Fit the unit to the tank and check the float arm travel. Fit the OE roll over valve to the tank.
