fuel injection, is it worth it?

I have an '82 FJ40 that it looks like I may be able to get ahold of a head and top end off of a 3FE. Is it worth it? What benefit would I really get? I can tune an Aisin carb where they run great, so not sure if I want to get into this or not. Does anybody know what the compression would be with the 3F head? Or is the aftermarket GM/holley FI better? I typically prefer to stay Toyota. Thanks.

Could ya skip all that stuff and go with a Cheby throttle bod and ignition?? Im sure there is more involved, if having FI is what your after i think there is an easier way..

good luck

I am no expert on this, but it is more involved than you think, there are a bunch of threads on the topic so do some searches, I don't believe it is as easy as swapping a head, you are better off swapping in a FI chevy, more aftermarket stuff OR a complete 3FE maybe....

The difficulty of converting Fuel injection from another vehicle is that you need to capture the entire system. By that, I mean the computer, harness, sensors, injection system, manifold, throttle body, O2 sensor and so forth. Plus, once you have it installed, you need to be careful about whatever the factory programmed into the computer to make it fit that vehicle, smog, transmission lockups, A/C compresor controls. The list goes on. I am a fast and firm proponent of Fuel injection. I live at 7,000 feet and travel from sea level to 12,000 feet. FI is the only way to go. But, if I were you, I would source one of the many aftermarket Throttle body conversions that are out there. The come with the harness, sensors, manifold adaptor, throttle body, fuel pump, fuel filter. The most complicated thing you have to do is figure out how to do the return fuel line to the tank. They program the chip for your application and you are off and running. Absolutely trouble free after a few debuggings. Don Home Page Wolf Creek Rod Works

I have access to all the parts at a fraction of the cost of GM. I'm curious if the Toyota electronically controls timing and how can I plumb this into my snorkle dealing with the air filter and it being on the wrong side of the vehicle.

If it improved mountain drivability and MPG where I live it might be worth it.

If I use the 3FE head on my 82 2F will my fan to fan shroud still have clearance issues and will the intake clear the brake booster?

You need the.

Head complete with EFI
Wiring harness to go with it
ECU to run it
3FE Headers

Space is limited between the brake booster on LHD plenty of good info about if you search. Some in the link below.

Most threads I have read have been in conjunction with a rebuild to suit, and have a had good gains. If it was as a straight swap it would be interesting to see what you felt you had gained verses cost.

Pinhead is correct it will make your wallet a little lighter:D

Something to consider too smog requirements and future costs, just have a look at the cost involved in replacing some of the EFI parts if they fail such as the AFM

Yeah, I haven't had a whole lot of time to search, but most of the posts on a 2FE instead of a 3FE are dealing with the 60 series. Still have a lot of technical questions on this thread that I need answered. Also read that the 3FE rod and main bearing bolts are stronger. Is this correct?

3FE rods are shorter and have there own issues and will not suit a 2FE.

Rod bolts are an issue but this seems the best solution.
