I would be interested in if the brake have one or two wheel cylinders per wheels. I have drum off of on of my 61s that don't seem to match the later cruiser or my FJ25. Front and rear brake drum part number match. Could you post the part numbers. Since these are pre 10 digit part number they really no use for parts purchase but I could use to compare them to me 62 micro-fiche which is also the old part number system. Just quest for more knowledge on these old cruisers.


Sean you might offer some of you stuff for trade first. If you decide your not going to use that 40 series H55F shifter I probably have a part your interested in.

I can't part with one "impossible to find" item to obtain another "impossible to find" item

I'll just keep plugging along with what I have. The 40 series top loader for the H55 took me 3 years to get. It will be used on an FJ45 LWB project I have been collecting on for close to 5 years now.

as for the book, I've been weeding out anything that I've gathered that I will not be using for my personal projects.

with the exception of "unobtanium", I've downsized my inventory by nearly 1/2. I find it's much easier to work in my garages when I don't have to either look for parts or relocate parts for an hour before any work is actually accomplished

In the 45 section where you posted pictures of the shifter it wasn't mounted. Just making sure you weren't selling it. In the same thread you said you were looking for a FJ25 part that is just as rare. If I can't find the shifter I probably switch the gears from my early H41 into a later H42 that works with the split case. Not going to buy a H55F unless I can find the 40 series shifter. Not going to cut the TOYOTA emblem in the floor mat. Like you I'm still collecting parts for some projects. Still need another rear E-locker for a complete set. But in no hurry for that since those show up from time to time. The FF rear with hand brakes are harder to find then the E-locker.

My plan is to sell off whole vehicles before selling off parts. Figure I might need the parts to help sell the vehicle. But the real rare parts will probably just get put into storage as spares.

Still interested in parts numbers from the wheels and brakes from the 61 parts catalog. The only thing the early catalog is good for is pictures and the part numbers to compare to other pre 10 digit part numbers. Your Toyota dealer has no way to cross reference these early part numbers.

H41 shift plate is the same as the H42. The shift plate is the same for the one piece and split transfer cases. Only reason I would trade the gears is to get the nineteen spline tailshaft on my H41. I. Have a few 40 series four speed transfer I could get the top plate off of.

July 62 micro-fiche shows the same part numbers as the 61 parts books. July 63 micro-fiche shows both front and back having the same part number. Both 61 8 have have two wheel cylinders per wheel. Having four sets of early FJ40 axles I hope to have enough parts to work with.
Also found it interesting the July 62 fiche has the later single lens turn signals.

John, any chance that the fiche was produced post '62? I have 2 owners manuals with print dates for '63. they have the same graphics on the front covers but printed in different colors, but identical in literature(including dual sided lenses). I also have/had 2 '61 parts books with completely different font/print and back covers ( the one that sold here is missing the front) and I'd assume different front covers, but again identical literature(including dual sided lenses).

I have micro-fiche for both July 62 and July 63. Both have the later style single lens turn signals. I thnk they may be for next year model year The July 62 micro-fiche shows slide up windows in the doors.

I have four sets of pre 63 FJ40 axles. The last set came with the vehicle. The shop that had been working on it couldn't get the brakes adjusted. One days I need to pull it apart and see what they did. I have the original drums that came in the back of the 40. Like you it's a room problem. The 61 is pinched between the 68 and the early 63 I picked up from a junk yard. Have to step from the fender of the 63 to the running boards then up to fender on the 61 to get from the back to the front of the garage. No room between the 68 and 61. But at least everything is out of the weather. Want to buy a cruiser? Buy two get the third one free

Wasn't planning on selling them off first but I'm always open to offers depending on what your looking for. All mine are soft top models which you already have.

#13 plan on keeping as is.

14# have a special project in mind.

#15 the doors and top bow pieces are gone. back seats went east. The head was missing but located just about everything including the correct FJ25 valve cover.

#16 has a 75/76 2F but still has the correct transmission transfer case. Axles have been modified and will be keeping those but do have another set of FJ25 axles.

Both 15 and 16 have non FJ25 wheels. I have managed to get some extras over the years. One of the two I will probably sell will get FJ25 wheels. Plus do have some other 25 stuff. Vehicles will be sold first though. Hate to have someone willing to buy if it had a part I already sold.

Also looking to sell off my 73 soft top and some of the early FJ40s.

Four FJ25 and seven FJ40s is to much for me.
