front stablizer shock

what type of shock is this? does it constantly push or want to extend? or is it one of those shocks that only has resistance when extending or compressing?

It's not really a shock; more of a dampener. In other words, yes, it only offers resistance when extending or compressing but won't move on it's own without force one way or the other.
