Front Speaker mounts dont fit 1980

So I bought both the Spector Off Road one, and the ICON fj40 front speaker mounts and neither of them fit my 1980 FJ40... Is something just completely wonky? This is the ICON fj40 one and as you can see it just sticks out like quite a bit... even tho it says its specific for 1979+ on their website... should I just start cutting?

On my 72 I stuck a board across the top lip by the windshield from door to door. There was enough room for the cd/radio player to sit on top of the board. At each corner by the doors I screwed a board with a hole cut out for the speaker to fit in the recess. Free. Worked great except cd player was worthless with any kind of rough road.

I was trying to make it nice But hammering away it will be....They fit perfectly fine in the 1970 I have, but the corner support there is just weird in the 1980...oh well

i did'nt mean hammer it, mark it and put it in a bench vise...it looks like the one edge is hemmed...so its probably 3003 series alum.....cold butter is stronger.
