I dont know if this gear is what I need but a few weeks ago I had a bunch of people in the cruiser. Someone was complaining about the rear leg room so the passenger moved the seat up. A few days ago I noticed that it wont go back. Still moves forward alright but not backward. It seems like it makes no noise at all when I push the button back. Could the gear be stripped or is it some other problem?

Awesome plastic fab skills btw.

lndcrz- that to me sounds like maybe the switch. The drivers side seat on our 96 does that and we have to play with the switch to get it to move. For some reason, the Mrs seems to have the "touch" to get it to move.

Both front seats in my 97 FZJ80 are binding - what do I need and who can I get them from? Ryan

If your seats don't move forwards or backwards - BUY THESE GEARS!!!! Freaking awesome TIM! First seat took me 30 minutes to replace. The next one I did in 15 minutes. This repair is a "Forest Gump" on the scale of how mechanically inclined you have to be to complete....

Tim, I have sent the money for two of each.

When I first bought my LX neither seat was working. I took apart the drivers seat gearbox just to see what was going on and my gear was a little worn but the thick rubber gasket in your pictures was a sticky gooey yellow mess that had the basic shape of a gasket. I took at apart, cleaned it up and fabricated a rubber gasket to replace it. It has been working since then but not perfectly. The PS seat is missing the cap but I haven't taken the gear apart yet to see what it looks like on the inside.

When I get the parts from you I will probably rebuild both seats and pay close attention to the torque specs that you noted from the FSM. I was also wondering if a white lithium grease might work better than standard axle grease. I'm not sure if it was the grease from a previous repair that may have melted my rubber washer or just crappy materials from the factory.

Thanks Again for performing all of the leg work and saving us hundreds of dollars. I'm constantly amazed at the information I get from this forum. I can't wait till I can afford to buy my wife another car so I can play with my baby more often. Until then it's just me and my 4-runner.

Just installed mine, works like a charm! Thanks NAKMAN! And I got a spare set for when the drivers seat inevitably goes out. But, there was no rubber washer in mine. I just put it back together like it came out. Dont know if that will cause a problem in the future.

just a update. It turned out to be the cap came off and backed that screw thing out. I was wondering what that little white screw was floating around on the floor board. Its working fine now but its noticeably slower than the drivers side and feels like its binding up. Now there is a notice on the dash that says "do not move the passengers seat if at all possible, could become stuck in whatever position you leave it".

Just finished installing a gear and white cap in my passenger seat. Works like a champ. Many thanks to Tim for developing these two items, providing the install instructions and pictures.

If I can offer one piece of advice to anyone contemplating this install it would be to take extra care getting the seat in and out of the truck. I was not careful enough and put a 3 inch scratch in my black paint.

FYI, i put superglue on my cap when i installed it. My new cap unscrewed once after installing it. So, now it's in there and been working great for over a year.

My advice is take that seat out of the truck, turn it upside down on chair and evaluate the two lead screws, make sure they're even. If you tried to run the seat without one of the caps, then it's possible only one lead screw turned, so your seat is actually cocked a little bit in the tracks- make sense?

If you loosen one side you can twist it manually so it's back in sync with the other side, and the seat should move much better after that since it won't bind as much. good call though not moving it any more than you have to until you can address this.

And mine have been in there over a year as well CJ, wow that was a quick year. Thanks again to everyone who has taken this leap of faith and embraced some new aftermarket technology, and hey thanks to you these little caps actually have their own web site now, along with a few other creations. check it out

I too wondered what that little whit cap was on the passenger side floor board. I saved it and then my passenger side seat stopped working...A quick search and eureka! I ordered a full set from you.

I then went out and reinstalled the "Fallen" white cap and the seat worked for a few more times, before giving up the ghost. I'm glad your set arrived before the 2009 Nevada Trophy.

Thanks for the fast shipping. I wish I would have ordered the clear lenses for the ARB as well to save on some shipping.

Cool man, glad they made it to you... you may hold the record for most rigorous use of the aftermarket caps & gears... and I hope to have the clear lenses in stock this afternoon, I'll post up in the Vendor's section once it's all a go.

Anybody install a new gear just to have it chewed up like this:

yep

yes, I had the same happen to me but I know that when I put the gear It went in tilted to the side.

so since the begining it made some funny noises before it colapsed.

Just ordered a new set, made sure to get it straight and no problem so far, I´m very happy with the gears.

Thank you guys, this is great, I was able to fix my seat thanks to Nakman. At first I tought it was the cap that was loose but I ended up changing the gear and it is working great. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

I finally got mine working. My seat had other issues, it only had 3 feet and allowed too much flex. I got another seat from a junkyard that had stripped seats and put the new cap and gears in the new seat and it works great.

Just finished replacing the gears and caps in both front seats.
I couldn't be happier!
A huge thank you to Nakman for coming up with these.
I ordered the parts thru the website and had them in 2 days.
Took a little longer on the drivers side since the seat was locked up and I had the seat rail extension installed.

Anyway, EVERYONE needs to check the little caps on the seat gear boxes.
Maybe even stickie this!
Good PM in my opinion.
If I had caught mine in time it would have prevented a huge headache!
My wife had the DS all the way forward when it locked up.
I'm 6'2 and couldn't drive it.

I'm stumped. It appears that there is no way to get to the screws to remove the plastic piece of step one from my seat. My truck is a 96, just like nakman's.

Anyone else have this problem?

You have to tilt the front of the seat up with the power control but it will still be a bit tight for a straight shot with a screwdriver.
