If you weld in some gussets between the ball and the tube you will be fine for harder offroading. For extreme offroading ditch the yota axles. Even the Toyota heavy duty axles can bend at the ball mostly due to jumping and panic situations sliding into stuff. For normal wheeling up to 35" tire the light duty axles hold up okay for most.
 
damn, i must be doing something right then ...

good to know, gusseting of the troopy axles are now on the list for the build.
