I can do that. I have the wheels off right now to swap out a hub anyway.

I think this was a popular method back in the old days. I'm really not sure, but it works. I called JTO to ask him what he buys for brake hoses, and he told me that he thought it's a better method than what he sells. He told me he just can't really expect to market used knuckles with ears welded on. If you're gonna do it, though, do it with Minitruck the first time.

You WILL need a proportioning valve. Just do it. Got mine from Summit and it was about $40.
Ed

Would you recommend the valve on the existing m/c, or should I definitly change the m/c and use the valve also?

bbalbano, I agree with the above. I got the parts to do this cheap from someone else on the board. I would recommend you go the Minitruck route. If you're still interested, I can take pics. The point I was making is that this method is better than the bracket.

The only option it has left me with is to have my coarse-spline birfs cryo'ed by a local place. Once those blow up, I'll be going Minitruck with Longs.

I would still like to see the pics. I never thought I would get hooked on cruiser porn...

Thanks

JT front disc kit

Man...I went through the whole enchilada on this whole decision recently

Just put a JT kit on my 74...they work great with no proportioning valve...I removed the acorn shaped valve that was in front master cylinder...works great.

BUT...you will need a grinder to work on the calipers where the banjo nut goes in...AND, you will need to get the circumphrance of your spindles ground down at a machine shop (cost me an extra 50 bucks) so they will fit in the rotors...

PM me and I'll give you the good the bad and the ugly or seach for my post from a few months back..

Happy braking.

I'd use the Summit valve on the new master cylinder. I don't think the stock proportioning valve is adjustable enough. It actually made plumbing easier on my installation. I have mine set to minimum pressure to the rears.

just do the minitruck conversion, don't stress about it so much, read my writeup and others and all the info is there. Print it all out on paper and have at it. It is really basic stuff. If you want to go even further, get a digital cam and take pics as you pull the axle apart, or just follow my pics in my thread.

I am a complete idiot and I got it done no problem all on my own. It's really not that hard. Post up, start a thread, if you get stuck just let everyone know and we will help.

You's Guys are the bizomb

Just got done taking apart the axle, It was a breeze.... I had a 2 hr window and I just jumped on it. Thanks for the push guys, I dont have the parts from a mini axle yet but this makes it alot easier to clean the area and prep it for the disk brakes... Here are some pics..
When I get further in the restoration Im going to post a thread of my build, I just dont want to post 3 pics a month if ya know what I mean..

Thanks Again

I really lucked out on my frame, when I bought this FJ40 I had no idea what to check for everything was caked in red clay so it was really hard to tell if it was good or not. Seems to me that the red clay preserved the frame because there is no rust on this frame at all. Im debating even using por15 it so good. Not trying to brag but I have seen some bad beginings on some projects...

X2 on the pics

You guys should really ask the guy that was talking about it. I wasn’t suggesting doing so, do not have any pictures of this done, and would not weld ears to mount calipers onto a drum brake knuckle. Sure, it can be done. But simply because you can do it does not mean that you should, or that it is a viable and safe option for the average guy to attempt.

Im not considering doing it, I just want to see the pics... Im already set on the mini swap.

Thanks

Did you see this.........................https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=148818

It might make your swap a little simpler. Maybe no need for the SST to perfectly center the knuckle. See PinHead's post #8 in the link.
I would have used them, had they been available when I went through my front axle.
You've made the right decision.:)
