ShottsUZJ100 said:100% agreed. Because the front end stocks out on the 100, we need a bumper like Slee's OLD 80 front bumper. Small, aggressive, no winch (strap usually does the trick...though I wouldn't know.), no lights....SMALL AND TOUGH! His new 80 bumper stocks out too far and too low (for me).
SLEE....YA LISTENIN'?
sleeoffroad said:Making a non-winch bumper does not work for us. We sell winch bumpers vs non winch bumpers at a ration of 50 to 1. A strap is nt always enough and most people that we sell to does actually use their winches.
Our new bumper is just about as close and high as you can get and still have a good looking bumper and have a winch. That is before one resorts to a 2x4 on the front
As for 100 front bumpers, probably not going to happen. The airbag deal is pretty big. With the 80, some have airbags and some not. We have the same disclaimer as ARB on the bumper.
I guess we can measure approach angles and get real number on this![]()

dclee said:The airbag will still function, however the problem isn't that it won't deploy, but that it MAY deploy too soon, i.e. smaller hits on the bumper that wouldn't normally deploy it will set it off. That said, I don't know of any 80 airbags going off, but IMHO it's not something that's worth messing with (explosive chemicals and all that jazz). If you could completely disconnect the airbag deployment circuit and essentially remove the bag from the equation, that might be an option, but I don't think that's legal. But a cut-off switch might work as I know some dealers install these when there is no choice but to put a kid in the front seat (Porsche, Nissan 350Z, etc.)...
sleeoffroad said:It has nothing to do with location, but with the rate of deceleration. The airbags have sensors that measure how fast you are "stopping". If they think it is to fast, they try to save you.![]()

tech_dog said:Mine also has the RSCA - Roll Sensing Curtain Airbags. I'm not sure how long they've been around.
There's a switch to turn them off before you go offroading so that they don't deploy on a lateral slope. I sure hope I remember to hit that switch if I ever take the dressed up girl out slumming.

dclee said:I think that's more for being to disable them if you have small children sitting in the second row outboard seats. Small children, who's heads are below the level of the headrest, can be killed by those bags exploding downward. Of course, securing them in a proper booster seat helps...
In the LC, they started in `03 as an option. It was a package deal that also included front side airbags. I think they were available in the LX prior to that.
