1982 FJ40; The front bib hinge is held down to the 1st cross member by two socket head screws that sit under the hinge pin, making it impossible to engage an allen wrench to remove it .
I there anyone that can tell me how to remove the bib hinge from the cross member ?
I thought about grinding the ends and pushing it through with impact force. Then when I put it back together I would tack weld it in place.
Also, I would like to put a grease fitting once disassembled.
 
You can remove the bib from the hinge or maybe fold the bib down. A more aggressive way would use vise grips on the Allen heads and a ratchet or wrench on the nuts in the frame. They're supposed to be bolts. What are you trying to do?

Trying to refurbish it. As aforementioned would like to adapt a grease fitting to keep it from seizing.

Drill a 3mm hole thru the back of the hinge tube towards the pin, you can smack away at it to dislodge rust and dirt which can now fall out the hole then use a pointy grease gun to lube it up. Plus 2 for Kroil. I did this on my hood hinges as well and also door hinges - drill the hole where it only shows with doors wide open.

Not enough clearance even if you cut the allen wrench at the bend. Vice grips approach unsuccessful. Bolts totally frozen to nut . Removed it by chiseling the heads of the socket bolt. Lots of pitting and corrosion.
 
Should mention Toyota did not use socket head bolts to mount the hinge to the frame crossmember so do not use them on the replacement. It also not like a door hinge where a fixed nut in hidden in the door pillar. My first try would be to a vise grip attached to the socket head and use a socket on the nut going thru the hole in the crossmember. If that didn't would use a grinder and cut the heads off the socket head. Unfortunately being a socket head it is possibly a higher grade bolt than Toyota intended.

With the stream lining of Toyota's parts system not able to tell went Toyota changed the design of the hinge (75?). Now only shows one part number 3/69-7/80. The earlier style just needed to remove a few bolts on the sides and loosen the others. With that done with wires disconnected with the bib at 45° forward the bib would lift off. With later hinge never found the hinge of any advantage.
