Sup guys! A few of you might remember my white BJ44V from the past. Well, I finally got all the body work done and a good paint job. Took the guy 2 months but it was well worth it. It is currently rust free!!! He told me he would never touch a cruiser again...rust, rust and more rust... but I did talk him in to helping me put a new diesel powerplant in the green machine before we head back to the states. Anyone body have any suggestions on a good power plant to install. I am still on Okinawa and I currently have the 2B. I heard from a pretty good source that a 15BT would be the way to go... But yea anyway I can sleep well at night knowing my LC is in my driveway and back to being my daily driver.

The 15BT would be a good choice but being in Japan the choices of low klm engines are almost endless.
I would probabaly look at a 6 cyl ,possibly a 12HT and 5sp;)

Oh and the paint looks great.

Whats the difference between a 43 and a 44?

ya know thats a pretty good question about the difference between the 43 and 44. They look exactlt the same from what I can tell. WHat about putting a 1HDT in my 44? Would it fit. Is it worth it because of the weight of the engine? How big of a pain in the A$$ is it gonna be fitting a 6cyl in a 44. One more question I would like to stay 24V. Thanks!!

The 4* front end held a 6cyl gasser and diesel from the factory. The HD-T is a tad longer, however they have been fit into the front of 4* series rigs, so yes, it can work. There will be more mucking around from rad to battery trays, however a 1HD-T, with HZ bellhousing and HZ H55F would simply be sweet. You are in the motherland afterall!

That said, a 13BT/H55F would be the closest to a bolt in.

The 12HT/H55F would be nothing at all to sneeze at.

Nice!

Fits quite well actually and not much heavier, the power would be unreal in a 40 series.

Sounds like a dream retrofit.

I put the 1HZ into a FJ45 and it fit quite well.

the over all weight of the 1HZ, 12HT is VERY close to that of the 2F so weight and size issues really aren't a concern...
cheers

The difference between the 43 and 44 are as follows:

the 44 was only really offered for '81 and '82 in Japan and in some places where they were imported like NZ and Russia. After '82 they became the BJ46 with the 3b and full floating rear axle. The 43 had the B (I think; I know it was available as the fj43 with the 2f) engine and the 44 has the 2B which was only offered in Japan. Front disks on the 44 along with the e-brake being moved to rear drums from the Transfer (odd that the BJ40 in Aussie still had the front drums up until 79). 43's IIRC only came with soft tops while the 44 was offered in both.

Hope that helps.

Are you sure? I know the 43 had the drums, but I thought the 44 had the disks.

In japan especially, they used to make mods before they would put it into world production. I am ordering an '81 BJ44 and it has the dash like the '83 FJ40 and BJ42 LX; with the silver panel instead of the controls installed directly in the dash.

I pick mine up in a week or so, so I guess I'll know soon!

i owned one for a short period of time and it was drums all around...
you are going to love it, the 2B is a surprisingly rsponsive little engine and great on fuel. the mid wheelbase makes for a much nicer ride...

i sit enlightened.
according to the EPC the 1980 BJ series could have had either from 80-08 to 81-10...
i would have it checked out before you bought just so you know.

a) what is an EPC?
b) I thought I asked when I ordered it and he said it had the front disks. As I said earlier, I'll know soon... either way I have a disk axle I can swap if need be!

Electronic Parts Catalog

How do I get my hands on that!?!? I usually use the specter catalog to see exploded views, but they only have 2F and such in there.... not really a great resource on anything diesel.
