Love the sound deadner treatment. All the suspension plushness plus the quietness of the 80, when are the cup holders being installed?;p

Thanks for all the props guys !!!

Andrew the tuffy already houses 4 of them but I guess one can never have enough cup holders eh !!

Aaron, I would LOVE to put locked axles under it.. I read somewhere the front one is beefier than an open axle.
However funds probably will not allow it to happen (at least not right now).
I also have to update the rear axle with new brakes and calipers, so unless a good deal on a lock axles or 3rd members comes along.. it wont happen for a while.....

HA!! it would be awesome to have two blue locked FZJ60 at surf n turf !!!

Just read this entire thread and looks like I need to hang out in the 60 forum more often. Very cool and clean.

not many folks with the skills to pull a project like this off... SO SICK, I love it

bad ass!!!

can't wait to see the end result.

Got my axles back...
This is before they got the Muratic acid & POR-15 treatment...

Spend the day putting everything back on.......

No idea if the steering box leaks but I did find out the FJ60 gear box fits on the 80's frame.. (at least the bolt pattern seems to be the same). However I dont know if the pitman would fit.. they are different tho'. Anybody knows if this would work. My 60 gear box was rebuilt and ported by WTOR about 3 years ago. It would be sweet if I could use it.

Another day to put the engine back on and setting everything up.. including brake lines from the 60 to the 80. Torqued a few bolts but a few went south due to rust and what not..

Lots of clearance underneath.
Engine is slightly sidesways so, TC lines up with diffs and the front shaft clears the tranny pan ;)

engine sits level and PS pump is about ½ - ¾" away from gear box.

Yesterday the whole thing went under the rig and everything fell in place on the first shot....About ¼" clearance between engine cover and hood...

Tomorrow is time to go see the Fuel tank fabricator and see about getting a tank.
This week I'll be putting e-brake shoes and parking brake back on.. Its awesome how somef parts from both rigs are interchangeable (i.e. parking brake). I'll be looking at rebuilding the front axle. I got the parts from Cruiser outfitters. The man said "BROWN will deliver in 3 days" and they did !!

Thanks yah'll....

I hope to be on the road by X-mas but I dont think Santa will deliver on time.

80 pitman arm will fit the 60 box. You could borrow my fancy snap-on puller if you could get Randy to replace the one he borrowed and broke.

With the better handling that you will be getting out of the new chassis, I think you'd be happier with the quicker steering 80 box. You could always sell your 60 box to recoup some of the money it will cost to rebuild the 80 box.

Thanks for the input.
Yes, if the steering box is good then Im golden.
if it needs rebuilding the 60's box will be there until I get the original rebuilt.

This truck is awesome. Thanks for sharing the experience with us!

Also if you decide to part with the 60 box let me know! I am in need of one for the later 85-87 variety!

I just drooled on my keyboard.

very nice and clean looking swap man. The frame looks brand new off an assembly line.

Looking forward to seeing more progress.

Thanks dudes...

Well, its official. I will not be getting a gas tank until after the holidays...
So, that's that. I will continue to put it all back together and post as I move along....

Clint, you got it....
I will let yah know if I part with it.

Bummer on the gas tank!

Thanks for considering the steering box!

I guess I don't really understand what you're doing, Frank.

I think I would be able to get a better idea if YOU DID THIS TO MY FJ60!!!

Let me know if you want me to test drive the coiled beast when you're done...

C'on Dylan.. you dont want to part out with that sweet frame you got under that rig.. specially with all the work and effort you put into it.
Besides.. you got to drive that thing all the way to Prudhoe Bay before you start modding it again !!! ;) ;)

Thanks for the info !!

Anybody knows if the diffs flanges are the same between 60's and 80's?
Can they be swapped ?

If not, I think I saw MC selling a "Universal Flange" but dont know if I could use it on the 80's axles.

TIA.

If you're using later 60/62 driveshafts, they'll bolt right up.
