If you go for the galvanizing, I would suggest blowing all the rivets out and doing each piece separately. I just got my frame back from galvanizing last week (check the frame off thread in my sig). Also, if you blow the rivets out and separate the frame halves it will make it much easier to fix the part that's rusted. I would strongly suggest blasting it so you can see how far that goes - it probably goes further than it looks!

Everything is repairable!

FYI, cruiser parts.net in NH is advertising 45 frames for sale, "various years" hit the link below and scroll all the way to the bottom... (No affiliation, just happened to remember seeing it)

What is the difference between the 45 and 55 frames?

45 and 55 frames share nothing in common, very different and would be alot of work. I once owned a 77 fj45 from canada and will never buy one again!! Of course living in california, we dont even like surface rust! Most here survive with original paint under 40 years of dirt. I have a dry aussie 45 for sale!

I looked up the frame specs they are very different. Thanks for the reply.

Hahaha, pretty funny reading though this, you can tell who owns/has owned Canadian vehicles!

Canadian answer: yeah, it's fixable, if you find a spot where there is no frame left, just copy the other side

Non CDN: Run, run away as far as you can

I wish I could find a 5 year old truck without a rusted frame!!

Yes it makes me sick everytime im down in Cali and i see a 10 year old truck and the underside is just as crisp as the day it came off the lot!

ha, ha, you guys are right on ... it was bad enough with salt alone, but the "cocktail" they're using now that they spray before the snow even gets here, is just a killer ... when the inevitable eventually happens, its Gozzard fibreglass for me ...

Yes ONT is nuts! That why id never look at a vehicle east of manitoba! Its not too bad here in sask.

If I took a pic of the bottom of my 80 and posted it, people would ask where it's leaking from and why I haven't addressed the leak that's spraying a greasy oil all over my entire chassis and body... :cD That "leak" cost me $200 to have applied!

Anyway, Varty Yo, don't feel alone, the frame on my 45 is almost that bad where it bends up behind the cab and I didn't think twice about acquiring it, knowing it could be repaired!

I need every part I can get! Top needs some work, but it's a metal top! I can't wait to get my 40 project done so I can start the 45!

Yah mine is metal also and had issues. The previous owner threw in another metal top but it will need some repairs also. haha
