Let me put it this way...I paid $13k for this rig...$8k later it still needs a few things. Read my listing...new engine/tranny/rear end. Let me give you the whole story...
Here's everything:
Purchased vehicle July 2002 from Greg Mushro via
Ebay.
Received vehicle in California by truck from Utah? and flatbed had a
pool of oil/fluids underneath, not a good beginning.
Cruiser also missing most of the hardtop bolts and the
mounting bolt for the power steering pump. Cruiser had moldy carpeting throughout/some diamond plate had been mounted OVER the carpeting! He said rust free/daily driver/no squeeks...YEAH RIGHT! To the deaf and blind.
Over the last three years I have:
Had a new engine ('78 Chevrolet 350) installed with an
R.V. cam, new intake
manifold/carburetor/transmission/clutch/pumpkin/rear
U-Joints. I've had various wiring maladies repaired,
bought 4 tires/rims 33x15s All terrain tires. Cruiser
came with Centerlines w/ Swamp Boggers 25% tread, too
aggressive for daily driving).
It comes with a Hardtop w/ all glass, no headliner in
very good condition. I also have a new bikini top
still in the box never installed.
It has a towbar mounted to the front bumper with quick
release pins. (This came in handy in the beginning.)
The rear deck is diamond plate. The rest of the floor
had beige carpeting that was holding moisture so I
pulled it all up and wire brushed the metal. I was
going to primer then paint the floor with flat black.
There are little bits of rust underneath and some on
the inner rim where the hardtop bolts on. The bad
areas have all been covered by diamond plate by the
previous owner.
Mechanically, I believe the Cruiser to be a very sound
machine. I would rewire the whole truck as the
underdash, while functional, is a mess. I have
repaired and cleaned it up as best as I can.
Fuel/Temp/Amp gauges are non-operable. I have
after-market temp and oil pressure gauges.
Speedometer and odometer function normally.
I can't imagine what else I can tell you. The only
reason I won't keep this vehicle is that I no longer
have any money to invest. I would like to replace the
upholstery, last owner had his wife embroider some
little pictures and nicknames. I planned on Rhino
lining the floor, installing an "easy-harness" to
rewire the whole truck at once.
Between you and me, between original purchase price
and investment, I have over $21k into this truck. I
cannot recoup what I have lost so now I am just trying
to pay off what truck debt I have left. I truly
believe anyone getting this FJ40 for $8700 is getting
a good deal.
BTW - Mushro offered to sell this rig for me, promised he could get all my money back...but that's the difference between him and me...I can't do that to someone. I'm not going to screw a guy just because he loves FJ40's. I already know what that feels like.
