You’re probably fine. It has to be extremely smooth….. I used a gasket kit from diesel power parts… pretty good quality and has a warranty.

Thought it time I resurrect this thread and get on with the job.
Not much has happened since last post, but I have decided to focus on the engine swap particulars.
So I figured while the 2H from the HJ60 is out, i'll grab the 2H from my 1981 HJ47 project and use that as a donor for the swap.
The H55F from the HJ60 was mounted to the donor 2H and it was time to see if this thing would fit.
Taking guidance from @duncanrm I grabbed the early mount brackets from the HJ47, and used FJ62 engine mounts, I gave it a go.
One thing that i didnt realise was that the lower engine mount bracket bolts on the block on the LH side dont align with the HJ47 LH side engine mount bracket (integrated unit with alt mount bracket) and so as you can see from the pics, it actually bolts up a tad higher.

Seemed to fit OK, but, of course, the gearbox didnt line up, so i had a look at what would happen if the gearbox was in place

Fascinating.. good photos!

Will you move the left hand side chassis mount?

So engine mounts had to come out.
If gearbox crossmember was modified to make it suit, i'd have a gear shifter pushed forward inside the cab, too close to the dash console for my liking.
The other thing that played on my mind was engine height, distance from the firewall, angles, clocking, all that jazz. I determined that the placement and angle of the chassis mount, along with the wedges would give me exactly what the factory intended. And so the decision was made to get some 2H chassis mounts seeing as I was chopping these '62 chassis mounts off anyway. Stupidly, i didn't hold onto my old ones when i got rid of the old HJ60 chassis.
The fella who sold me the mounts cut them off a late HJ60 (perfect!) and retained key reference points that I could use when mounting them onto my FJ62 - on the LHS, there is a small tapped hole that sits under the mount and on the RHS, the reference point was the steering box bolt holes, which sit underneath that chassis mount (staggered type for late chassis, not square).

So I cleaned up the mounts a little, then I used the reference points with steering box bolts on the RHS to mount and punch in some holes in the chassis to mark out where they sit. On the LHS, i sheared the head of an appropriately sized bolt, threaded it into both the chassis and the supplied mount and marked that off too.

The interesting thing is that when i went back through and read 2h engine mounts - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2h-engine-mounts.1304796/ Duncan kindly provided two measurements as reference : LH 40mm centre of shock tower to centre of chassis mount and RH 190mm centre of shock tower to centre of chassis mount. These measurements didnt line up with what I had using the reference bolts....LH was pretty much spot on, but the RH was about 180mm centre to centre. So, i wondered what to do, do i go off Duncan's measurements, did Duncan use early HJ60 measurements, and would early to late be different???

So, i figured the best way to attack this would be to jig everything up properly that has certainty - tailshafts on, gearbox mounted, LH side chassis mount tacked in, pop on the wedges, the engine mounts and the engine mount brackets, positioned in their correct locations (forward on the RHS and set back on the LHS of the available block mount holes) and see where that puts my RHS chassis mount.
This should happen in the next day or so.

Nice.. am I wrong or are you trying to lose late chassis mounts with early engine mounts?

Good job.

That’s exactly how I did it.

I would be careful before you fully weld on the mounts. Drop the motor In first. Sometimes
The frame isn’t perfectly true.

What’s the best part about doing a 2H swap into an FJ62???

Packing up the engine hoist away because you won’t need to pull the f’ing motor and box out for the millionth time ever again!!!!
