If so, would a part-time transfer case from the 62 drop into my 80? If not, what kind of work am I looking at to get a part time t-case into my 92?

Why not just purchase the part-time kit with manual locking hubs...

or the ghetto way - drop the front drive shaft and lock the center dif switch. If I recall, someone once replied to me that they do it this way, and they know their cruisers...

The kit is $500, and requires it to be rebuilt which can be up to another $200 bucks. I can get a junkyard case for $200, rebuild would be another $100, and Asian hubs possible free. Tryin to go the cheap way out, or rather, a more factory way out. I am now curious on the HF1A, the part time case that can be had in Non-NA 80s. Does anyone know where one of these can be found?

This is a little late but the sequence I remember is the A440F in 62's and FJ80s. Then they went to the A442F computer controlled version of the A440F with intro of FZJ80 models (which I believe was "bigger" trans) than what they replaced it with in 1995. My guess is that a FJ62 t case would probably work fine behind a FJ80 assuming its the same spline count. Which it probably is. I love the idea of a viscous coupling FJ80, bummer they couldn't maintain that AND add a part time 4WD kit that also utilizes a cetner diff lock button. That would be great for snow driving, etc...

I just installed Marks part time kit in my 80. It is a really simple install and the tcase can be left on the truck and there is no fab work at all. It does not require a rebuild, although while you are there you will be resealing the 3 parts of the case. Marks kit can be bought at Slee and is listed on his website for somewhere around $350 without hubs and $500 with. I would do this before doing the tcase swapping for ease of install if anything else. It took everybit of 30 mins. to do it after it was sitting on the bench. And, Andre, it does use the center diff lock swith to engage the 4WD system. Cool huh.
