I just found this by chance. What a neat swap! I mean sure it wasn't easy but now the OP has my favorite body of these trucks, the 60/62 and the ease of repair of the 40. I mean look at all that extra room! That truck should be much easier to wrench on and will probably prove to be very relaible.

Just curious, could you not have gotten a 3F carb from overseas? The 3F engine came carb'ed in other markets.

But I agree the 3FE is a difficult engine to run nice. I had a lot of issues on my 3FE, but was able to get it running better by blocking the vacuum to the egr.

Now you don't have that to worry about. But having an older engine (than body) without pollution control will limit the places it can be registered. You could change out the firewall with one from an FJ60.... Have a new VIN and call it an 84.or so.

You working on that in a base garage and nobody gave you s***!? What I would have given to work on my s*** on base without having to go to the hobby shop!

good work. i remember seeing your CL ads with the parts in the back of a 80. I wondered what the parking garage connection was? hahaha,, i get it now.

Man, I’d skin a late 2f head and run the square block with the 2f manifolds and carb...

I have the timing set at about 8 degrees of initial timing and it revs quickly (for a 2F) and pulls my truck worth 35s very well.

Your funny. Pulls truck with 35s very well. Still chuckling...

Couple of questions. Don't they have smog checks there? Typically a no-no to put an older engine in a vehicle.

Good luck with the Holley. My experience is that they suck big offroad.

Looks good though. Enjoy!

Luckily there’s no smog in VA. I had heard a lot of bad things about holleys on 2Fs that see extreme angles. This is a non issue for me because my truck won’t be seeing any extreme trails or god forbid large rocks. 🤮 The Holley works very well for daily use, and believe me, it really does pull very well....

You could also look into a Ford Motorcraft carb. I used to run those on my FJ40. They have a Holley bolt pattern but don't suffer any of the off-camber issues that the Holley's do. They were used on literally millions of Fords. I've had great luck with them in the past. Very simple carb, pairs nicely with the 2F motor. Enjoy!

So I haven’t posted on here in a while.
I finished the 2f swap and daily drove my cruiser before I went on deployment and it forced me to make it reliable. However, I did find some other issues.
-The biggest being the fact that the PO did a halfass job converting it to SOA and SOA just sucks in general. The shock mounts are too short to mount a stock shock and the lift and tires are too big.
-I also needed to rebuild the rear brakes and add a proportioning valve and new brake booster.
-also the way the trans was mounted was absolute trash luckily I have a short H42 and 1983 crossmember but no shift linkage for it.

While I was on deployment I saved up a bunch of money. I bought a ton of parts and I have a huge garage so I splurged on a ton of parts

-MAF 38 gal tank
-AA twin stick and t case reseal
-OME heavy plus lift kit from Kurt at cruiser outfitters
-Gobi stealth rack
-Pro comp 17x9 wheels+BFG AT Ko2s 275/70r17
-Warn VR1200 winch
-addicted Offroad tube bumper
-hitch mounted motorcycle carrier

Also lots of little parts
-didn’t have sway bars before so I added a front sway bar with oem Toyota bushings and brackets.
-4 runner brake booster
-new asin clutch master and slave cylinders
-MAF stainless brake lines
-willwood proportioning valve
-rebuilt rear Driveshaft+ rebuilt double Cardon front Driveshaft.
-refurbished hitch receiver
-new rear drums, brake cylinders and pads
-revised side exit exhaust

Oh, and that henna red 1984 E30 318i is my new daily.
My FJ60, e30 and my motorcycle have a nice garage they stay in.

I've still got a lot of work to do but I'm slowly reversing the mistakes of the previous owner. I’m not a pro or even close to as talented as some of the dudes on this forum but I’m really trying to do things halfway decent with this truck. I just want it to be a good driver that’s able to eat up 1,000mi road trips and be able to get to campsites you couldn’t get to with a car. I think I’m going to be able to accomplish that.

Next step is to revise the engine bay wiring. Right now my Volvo fan and USB charger/volt meter go directly to the terminal and doesn’t look great. I'll be adding lights on the roof rack and bumper and an under hood compressor and eventually an additional battery so it makes sense to add a power distribution block and fuse box.
The lights and compressor will be relayed and fused for safety.

I also need to convert my steering linkage back to stock since there isn’t much clearance with the hi steer setup

Oh. Here’s some videos of my 2F pulling 35s with 3.73s just fine. Yes this is WOT up to 4200 rpm and No, it’s not fast but it’s certianly not struggling even with part throttle. It doesn’t seem to mind going uphill either. Dare I say it sounds pretty good also
