If you've ever dreamed about freeing up the space where the (gigantic) one gallon OEM FJ60 windshield washer is located, so you can mount some big accessory in that prime location (air compressor/air manifold, big fuel filter/bus bar/whatever… You can. And you don't have to lose your windshield washers to do it.

If you've lost or removed, don't care about or never had the headlight washer system in the engine compartment that was equipped in later model FJ60s, you still can do it. There's room.

All it takes is the venerable Flambeau 065204 - Windshield Washer 2 Quart 12 Volt System.

Installation is a piece of cake:
  1. Drill two holes in the inner fender (engine compartment) to mount the tank's front mounting tabs & use the existing 6mm threaded hole in the inner fender for the rear mounting tab. A nylon spacer can be used to take up the space.
  2. Swap in a new WeatherPak plug for the OEM plug that comes out of the wiring harness for the washer motor.
  3. Run new wire over to the new reservoir with spit loom shielding.
  4. Re-route the washer hoses to the new reservoir with a new piece of 1/4" tubing.
  5. Bingo Bango Bongo! Done before Tea Time. Washer pump is very powerful.

(Now I'll have to refill it every 2 months instead of 4...)

Very nice install. I do hate how BIG that reservoir is when I'm trying to run wires, but for me it's there. I'll deal with it.

I don't think I've ever had to top mine off.

Thanks this will prolly help me get my rear washer bag out of the engine bay and back in the rear quarter…..Prev. Owner installed snorkel in a manner that required removal of stock washer tank….I needed something to pass VT inspection so I put rear washer bag in engine bay for short term...

Great info, thanks. Engine bay space is always at a premium. Now I can add something else!

^^
Yes it would.
But if you have only one battery installed, you could get a bigger tank and install it closer to the front of the car like Darwink1 suggested.

Darwink1's suggestion is great idea if the car only has one battery.
Since I wanted to route the cool air intake hose straight through the inner fender then out to the front when the 2nd battery was installed, the original headlight washer tank was in the way. Otherwise I could have used that for a windshield washer. I didn't care if I lost the headlight washers.

Anybody ever ran their washer fluid through the auto tranny cooler loop in a radiator? I've seen hot water setups before and it'd be great for bugs and such.

That is a hell of a good idea IMHO. Wouldn't be as useful in the south I'd think, but in the north, to melt ice? Hell yeah, that would have been badass.

Looks like a nice option. My stock bottle is all broked...

...but in the north, to melt ice...

As long as the water/fluid mix has a low enough freezing point. Otherwise the water would freeze, expand, and rupture the tank.

You're from the south, out northern stuff doesn't freeze until -45 C. Heating it would be a good idea for bug cleaning in the summer,
especially when it snows....:flipoff2:

A full year later and I just called to place my order with Flambeau today. Can't wait to have a non-cracked washer bottle :D

The pump for the headlight washers is more powerful then the window washer pump, so use the old pump

Would this work as a replacement for the headlight washer tank? I don't care about the underhood space, so the windshield washer tank can stay in the original location on my truck.

I'm tempted to go this route for my headlight washer. I have the valence/nozzles/hose/etc. on my '86 FJ60 project vehicle, but it's getting a 3FE transplant so the silencer takes up part of the space where the headlight washer bottle goes.
