Howdy all! Trying to get my feet under me with my new pig rig. I've managed to get the calipers/rotors/etc. assembled and bled, so now I can stop this iron monster! That's a good thing.

Unfortunately, I can't steer her yet:( The previous owner (a member here) had begun the power steering install of the FJ60 unit. I cannot for the life of me find an install thread on this site. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right places? I've seen a few on FJ60 units going into 40s, as well as a couple going into 2F engines (which is what I have in this '75). As of right now, I cannot even figure out where the heck to bolt the brackets on to, let alone where the pump/pulley go!

Any help or directional orientation would be MOST appreciated!

Thanks all!

Thanks Rusty. I've already got the parts from an FJ60, so I'm trying to stick with what I have to help save money.

I'm wondering if I need to tap holes somewhere to mount this sucker up. Seems that some people have had to do that on the FJ55's with 2F motors. If that's the case...I'm going back to manual I think:)

OR bill dorey style bracket? Use the search to find it. It's a bolt on power steering pump bracket that's not cheesey.....From what I've gleamed the ps box mounting bolts should be sleeved into the frame and a gusset should be used-welding required..... I sometimes want power steering, but will wait to do it right. I have read good and bad things about the 60 box. I have been steered rather convincingly toward the scout box. A working manual box works. I think skinny tires would make steering the manual a bit easier.

Yeah I have heard Man-A-Fre has a mount I can buy, since I don't have the time/capacity right now to fab a mount. I'm tempted to go back to the stock steering assembly, even though a portion of the power-steering has been installed. Decisions...decisions...decisions...

I got to a similar point in my project- I'm running a rebuilt manual box now.....IT WILL WORK. and you can be driving w/o much hassle.....Not the man a fre bracket- the Bill Dorey bracket. Orange fj45 is making them up in Stockton Cali. They bolt to your motor mount and look pretty beefy. It's the ONLY bolt on aftermarket bracket that I would but to run a PS pump. I have an 86 2F motor in my rig right now that has the PS bolts holes and bracket and whatnot, but I think I will wait a while before going to a scout box and sag pump..... besides, steering tha piggy makes my guns git bigger! Find the bill dorey bracket, and then compare it to ANY other version of a PS pump bracket, and you will see what I mean.

Power steering

I run a 62 box (similar to a 60 box almost the same thing) on my piggy. Did it ala mark whatley with welding a strong steel plate to the frame and drilling and tapping holes in the plate. we did this when doing the spring over on the pig and it has been tremendous. if you don't have access to mark Whatley's article in trails a few years ago I can copy it and send it to you. it is an excellent article and this is a great PS setup for a piggy especially with a spring over.

Prior to this setup I ran a PS box from a solid axle mini truck using an Ironpig bracket. It was 100% bolt in- the stock steering column didn't have to modified at all and it used the original FJ55 pitman arm. easy install and a great improvement after two years of wheeling the pig with (dangerous) manual steering. With that setup i was running 33 x 9.50 tires on stock wheels and it was a real nice setup on street and trail.

For pumps I now run an FJ60 PS pump as the engine in my piggy now is a Jim C built engine from an 87 FJ60. Works great. prior to installing the Jim C engine I was running a 22R pump in a bracket modified by Jim C to fit the original smog pump location. That install was absolutely bullet proof and adequate for my truck with either 33 or the current 35" tires.

A plug here for Jim C. I've had him do quite a few things for me over the years from carbs to brackets and his work is A-1. he can modifiy a 22R pump bracket and replace the pulley with a slickl 17MM wide new sheave so that you can properly run the wider land cruiser V-belt. My two cents.......Gary S

Exactly what Gary (Schmukster) said..

Get a plate and drill holes, weld it to the frame... The mistake I did first was I installed my power steering before I had my engine in. I had to move it (pretty far forward). The FJ60 steering is the same as the FJ55 as far as the little u joint. You can get away with everything being a bolt on but in my case I cut the rod and welded in an extension.

I'll post pics when I get a chance.. It is very easy...

I'm thinking of going the same route. If/when you do get started on this, please post pics and share with the rest of us. I have an '81 2F installed, so I believe I can bolt up an FJ60 steering res. and modify the frame with a plate and drill some holes, etc.

I understand pictures WAY better then just reading, so again, if you do this please post pics for the rest of us! :)

here are some pics
I used a toyota tercel pump ( works fine )

and the steering box is I use is and right steer from japan but in basiclly de same thing all you have to do is place the plate and the steering box oppsite side of the frame, and probably also lenght the steering shaft a few inches

is also good to place cedule 40 1/2 inch tubing trough the frame, and weld to the plate to add more support.

step by step, is fun to pull that work
