FJ60 Fuel Tank Capacity

I have this issue too with mine. 15 gallons is all I have ever been able to get in there. Mine has had the tank recall replacement. I always assumed it was my sending unit. When I am full the gas guage is off to the right from the full mark. Like between the 3/4 and full marker. So it never seems to have the dial fully on the full line and the level drops from there such that when it shows empty it still prolly has fuel left in the tank. In a normally operating fuel guage, should the dial be fully on the full mark when full, or do they all show off to the right a bit of the full mark? I was thinking that the float on my SU is just leaking some and does not float fully to show the correct current level. But maybe its just another quirk of the 60 series this relative noob is not aware of. I too use the trip meter and start looking for gas when I get around 200 miles on there for fear of running out of gas. Would love to be able to get further than that though.

Today I filled up w/ my gauge reading almost empty. It filled to 18 then the nozzle clicked off. The gauge then registered to almost 1/8th to the full mark. I’ve replaced the sender w/ oem. I’ve cleaned the contacts of the fuel ground because I still get a slight rise (and drop) from both the fuel and water temp. I slightly tweaked the screw that is adjustable on the fuel side of the gauge. Nada nothing changes how it likes to read or act. I’ve pondered buying a new 62 gauge but cash isn’t avail right now. Chalk it up to 31 year old mechanical freakiness.

That's pretty much what mine does too. Sometimes the reading will drop from 1/2 tank to 1/4 tank really quickly too. Annoying.

I’ll add, I just use the trip and around 200 I just go full up.

i forgot to update my problem until this thread came up. i replaced my fuel
pick up and my problem immediately went away. i probably had a bent tube that wasn’t allowing it to sit deep down in the tank.

Thanks for the clarity!

Glad to hear you got it solved. I hooked up the lines wrong on mine, and it only made it to the end of
the driveway when I installed the LR tank. Little things.
