Check out this quote on the history of the 55 model.

"The 50-series was made to be sold on the great continents of America and Australia, and because of its shape, in America it was affectionately known as the Moose."

From history here. TOYOTA LAND CRUISER Data Library

The site contains some interesting comments from the original Toyota engineers who designed the early series "Lan-Cru". Many brochures in PDF format for download also.

Check out the cup holders.

Awesome- it DID work for someone else! or should it be IronMoosePig?

LOL, my wife was joking about tags for our new 55 and coming up with derivations of moose, iron and pig on our drive back with the 55 a few weeks ago, I think IRNMS won at the time? Maybe just scuzzlebut...

I saw moose mentioned on wiki and asked a few people about it - no one has heard of it's origin.
