Has anyone installed REAR shoulder belts in an FJ55? If so, where/how did you anchor the upper mount?

This thread has some suggestions...

There is already a mounting point back there, people seem to have trouble with placement of the retracting part. Still on my list of things to do...

Okay, so it's only like 10 days later, but here's where I mounted the shoulder bolts... front and rear. I cut a strip of 1-1/2" x 1/8" flat stock into a strip about 2" long, then drilled an oversized hole and welded a 12mm bolt to the back of it. AFter this I fished a wire with a magnet down the existing hole and pulled the backer plate up into position and drilled 4, 1/4" holes at about the corners and used these to tack the backer into place. I figure if I'm in a collision strong enough to pull these through the sheet metal... I'm toast.

Let me know your thoughts.

this is a kewl idea:idea: have been wondering about how to go with rear shoulder belts in a 69 and this seems like a really elegant way of solving the lack of shoulder belts in the rear:clap:; any pix of the backing plate?,

I am confused, why not utilize mounting point already provided?

The main reason I chose not to use any point on the pillar.............comfort and safety for my son.

With the shoulder attachment lower and in back of the seat, it will not cut across his face and should work correctly if it is needed.

Sit in the back seat and imagine how the belts will run.

I purchased newer retractable 3 point belts and it didn't make any sense to me to have my shoulder point in the middle of the rear doorway. I chose instead a mounting position much closer to modern vehicles and with the addition of bucket seats in the front, much more comfortable.

I thought the threaded holes over the doorways are for the grab handles to mount.

I did similar sahelzer. I just made the plates from 1/8" stock drilled and with a nut spot welded on the back, then lifted into place behind the hole in pillar by fishing a line to it and tacking into place there through small holes I drilled for that purpose. A lot of work to have it in the spot I wanted, but I only have to do it once, ya?

anchors for rear shouder seat belts

have not tried to install rear shoulder belts as my youngest are too small and their car seats use the lap belt...............there is a hole already tapped above the rear cargo windows with a "hard point" for seat belt hardware 11 mm fine thread screws; did a dry run with a retractable front seat belt on the rear but am still trying to figure out where to place the retractor part........."Nat" solved this nicely in the "Shoulder Seat Belts" thread by adding a rear roll bar and then attaching the shoulder part to it...........other option have thought of is finding an early pig front shoulder seat belt with the clip on style and just flip it to the back seat and attach the shoulder part to the "hardpoint" above the rear cargo window HTH
