Hello to all,

How easy is it to mount a 1965 fj45 to late 1980's model fj60 frame? I was told that the wheel base is about 3" wider and aside from that you would gain a 5speed tranny and 2f motor. I know, why would i want to put a 45 on a 60 series frame? I am currently gathering as many parts as my wallet/wife will allow me to for my crack at a 4 door fj45. I have secured a 1965 fj45 from Dan at Wimberly 4x4. I took about 15 or so pics from my mobile and as soon as i figure out how to transfer them to the computer i will do so.

Well in the US the 60 series never came with a 5 speed only a 4 speed manual H42 transmission in the FJ60 and a 4.2l 2F engine, and a 4 speed automatic A440 in the FJ62 with a 4.0l 3FE. You mentioned wimberly 4x4 So I take it you are in Texas or close to at least.

Yes, I'm in San Antonio. I went to see Dan about the 45 he had in the yard and worked the deal out with him that includes visiting the other yard that has quite a few parts vehicles. I will source parts from there like the b pillars as will as two fj-40 tops to combine as one and two additional 1965 doors to match existing doors from the 45. I know this is a huge undertaking but I say dive in first and then see how deep it is. I plan to have a ton of fun and hope to build my bond with my son Justin even greater!! I was looking at D-Animal's build and noticed that the frame might have to be stretched? What do you guys think?

Here are a few pictures of the 45 I will be using. (picture taken with phone)

Are you looking to make a 4 door truck or 4 door suv?

If I was going to do a frame swap I would do an 80 series because you get coil suspension along with maybe e-lockers and a newer engine. However, I don't know how a 45,60,80 frame compare. Either way a 4 door 45 is sick. I want to build one at some point. Good luck with the project.

there is actually quite a it involved with that swap.. both myself and "the dude" are doing something similar although mine is more like what you are thinking of doing minus the 4 door thing.. i bent my last frame so i thought i would try a bj60 rolling chasis.( this gives me a 3b 4 cylinder diesel, power steering, 5 speed.) there are a ton of them up in canada so it was easy to find a good bj60 to strip down...

the body mounts are obviously the biggest thing that you will have to change but you are also going to run into fender issues as well.. you wont be able to mount your fenders using the standard 4 bolts from the fender support to the frame..

as well, lining up the body to match the drivetrain might be a little tricky.. i was lucky as the 3b diesel is a small engine so it was easy to work the body around the drivetrain but that 2f might pose some body placement issues if you arent planning on moving stuff around.. sorry, i dont know how far you plan on taking things to make this combination work so mabey you are going to move the drivetrain in the frame as well??

i think the 60 series frame/ rolling chasis is an excellent place to plan your build but plan for lots of fabbing to make it happen..

i am actually just in the middle of adapting the 60 series steering column to my truck as well.. i want to get some of the pull knob switches off the dash (such as lights, hazzard, windshield wipers/washers and use the columns multifunction switch as well..) but i am more doing it for the tilt function more than anything..

i will post a few pics of my truck on a 60 series frame..

Very nice rig! I'm not sure about the 80 model. I'll have to ask more ?'s about that type of a swap. There would be quite a few wires to work out. I found a 55 series frame through Jim here on mud at a great price but the thought of a complete drive train off a 60 series has me leaning toward the late 60's series. I got to thinking about this 60 series swap and started looking for one on iaai which is an auction site for wreck, stolen and flood vehicles. My guess is that i could pick one up complete with very little damage at a great price.

Read danimals build bro that rig came out bad ass! Even if it's not exactly what your planning ... I'm sure you'll get some ideas

Well .... you have had the thing going on for a month now..... whats up ?...........

What's going on Grant?
I've got quite a few pics but I'm waiting on some parts from Spector: a-pillar, rocker panel and b-pillar complete for both sides and then I will show a little 45-4 door porn! It sucks that they stole my chassis! El Conquistador is coming!

...It sucks that they stole my chassis!.!

really WOW .. I'll file a stolen car report for the chassie tomarrow you still have the title right ??
