FJ40 Won't Shift

used reverse to back into parking spot, then parked in first, started engine in first with clutch pushed in then engaged clutch to drive away. went for second and shifter would not move. Tried double clutching and rolling but nothing worked.
 
I replaced clutch 1 1/2 years ago and found the shifter fork to be quite worn have been kinda looking for a replacement. But still disengages the clutch and is at max adjustment on threads.
 
Here is an answer with photos, since I experienced exactly the same problem when I reinstalled my transmission. The mistake I made is that I removed the shift lever while it was in gear. It shall only be inserted and removed in neutral. The photos should be self explanatory when you look at the transmission at the same time.

Hopefully someone can help me out as well. My picture looks similar to this, but the center section is a little bit further forward. It still does not perfectly align with the forks for 3-4.

The truck drove fine, My wife had to move it while I was out of town and when she pulled into the parking spot, it got stuck in what seemed like neutral. I was not there to see what exactly happened, But, she said she was trying to put it in Reverse to line up for the spot when it got stuck. Luckily she was able to just push it into the spot and park it.

I pulled the shifter and the 3 springs and Balls and I cannot Move these by hand. The shifter will not move them at all. Any thoughts as to what the next steps should be or how I can realign these? Are there any pictures out there as to what they should look like. I have the shifter and plate off.

I am curious to what was the cause. I have a similar issue. Will shift with the motor off, but when running I am unable to get it into a gear. Clutch can disengage the motor/tranny fine. Just can’t go from N to an gear or Gear to Gear when the engine is running. Any help appreciated.
