@RotDorn not that I add fuel to the fire but my ‘75 2F has had a Weber on it since I bought it 2 years ago. Since it is not driven daily and has been in The garage for 3-4 weeks at a time. Every 1st start is the same as yours… it also has a gear reduction starter and cranks very quickly. By the third attempt it will start. If I wait more than 3 days…same starting procedure. If I start it within two days….perfect

My FJ40 ran so nicely beyond that, I put off installing my Holley Sniper for 18 months DESPITE it being in the back of the truck waiting. I have finally started the Sniper install and hope to finish it before Friday.

By comparison…. My FJ45 has a stock rebuilt Aisin carburetor and like a new Land Cruiser at any dealership in the 1970’s….pull the choke and it starts right up. Never a problem and as reliable as my Chevy pickup. For what it worth… since 1974 I have a Holley, Rochester ,Weber and stock Aisin. Stock was best and not just starting…no hesitation, great pedal performance, no cough or sputter and very cold -40degree F starts.

I’m looking forward to the sniper EFI

A mechanical metering device will always be more reliable. Never once have I been stranded by a carb, can’t say the same for fuel injection. The need for a high pressure fuel pump, injectors, temp sensor, map sensor, throttle position sensor, idle air control valve, mas air flow sensor, O2 sensor, intake air temperature sensor, cam sensor and crank sensor / good signal from dizzy, and let’s not forget, an ECU to control everything.

Factory fuel injection aside, Snipers have been proven to be highly unreliable, whether it’s failing injectors, ECU, etc. and we are to “send it back to Holley to have fixed.” Will they pay the tow bill when their shotty unit leaves you stranded? GM TBI was incredibly reliable, I’ve had my 87 Silverado for 20 years and never had a problem with the TBI unit. Fast fwd to modern day and Holley puts out a pile of crap. Now they’re marketing their Sniper 2 as revolutionary 😂
Maybe it will be halfway reliable. Time will tell. I won’t hold my breath.

FWIW, down here in Ecuador the FJ80 1FZ received a carb up through 1998.

Carb paired with GM Hei is King (remote coil and module, not big cap).
