Not sure we know the date the stamped LAND CRUISER bezel stopped but right about the same time the our FST opening changed. On the picture of the production line can tell this is most likely a 61 by the front bumper. FST and hard doors these cruisers were not headed to America.
When I filled up one afternoon at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon a few years ago - I crashed the second annual Pig Party - I was surprised to find out the attendant pumped the gas AND cleaned the windshield. But he was nowhere as nice looking!

If I can find it and scan it, I have a picture of me testing the ground on the bed of Soda Lake near Zzyzx after crossing the Mojave on the Mojave Road. My blue '83 FJ40. My buddy had a red '71 FJ40 but opted to take his 4WD Tacoma instead (one of the first in SoCal)=Three days without touching pavement except for 1-2 miles for a gas stop halfway. Woulda been '82 or so.
