Noah,

Yes...constructive criticism and likes/dislikes are welcome. I had nothing to do with the plug as it sits now so I can't take any credit/abuse for how it looks....I'm only interested in pursuing this if I can make people happy and give them what they want. If I need to modify the plug and mold so that it looks just like it should have come from the factory, then that's what I'll do.

The more I look at stock tops compared to the current plug, the more I realize I'll need to make some modifications...which I'm open to doing.

Thanks again for the input.

Ian

sounds great can't wait to see the pics . any chance you could cut the plug into two pieces . make the lower half then the top half . just like the OEM top . so as to add the rain gutter might want to check out these guys in ontario canada

Jake,

I have friends out in the lower mainland near you...and family in northern Washington...chances are we can get together when I finish the project. I'll also document the development really well with the cruiser the top was built for. (lots of pictures)

This looks cool, but how does the roll bar fit? Would you have to take off the rear bars? Does anyone have any pictures of a half cab with stock or not stock roll bar?

Matt,

I'm not sure about the roll bar...I'll get the answers to these questions as quickly as I can.

I'll need to mount the plug on the 40 to verify fit and finish.

I'm thinking right now that the 1 piece idea may not be as important as making the top look stock. If that means 2 pieces, then so be it. More research needs to be done on my side.

Personally, if I were in the market, which I'm not right now since I don't technically own an FJ40, seems like it'd be very little trouble to extend the top, making a small or even medium sized "extra cab". Having owned a real 45, lack of covered/secure storage was definitely a problem. Nothing huge since we're talking about a 40 here, but an extra 10 or 12 inches would make a big difference. The flip out style windows from a late style cruiser should take care of the space needed.

I'm going to start taking this project seriously.

Sam, let me know what you want to know...

Weedhopper...any chance I can get some pictures of your top? I didn't know anybody made one. Regardless, I intend to make this top higher quality than anything that might be out there now.

Mine is homemade with the original roof-cut.It looks like Shotguns, but the rear corner is squared off and it has little side windows, a rear pickup sliding window and a sunroof. I always thought it was a very cool idea, but I have another 78 coming next week and the pickup will never happen. I will "unbury" it and get some pics.

quick get me a napkin!.. that is sick!.... i totaly want something like that. my fj will be geting the back of it all cut up soon and a 1/2 cab would be my only choice to have a hard top. man..... if only i could find a pot of gold to pay for all the mod's now!......... i love the looks of that top! good work

I did end up getting the 1/2 top in need of restore from Weedhopper, (see previous posts). But after some contemplation, I came to the conclusion that I did not want to use it, I then gave it to Joe from RI.

Mainly the reason was that I could not use the stock roll cage with the 1/2 top...Just something to concider for others that want to go 1/2 top.
