I doubt this ever happens, but the whole plan has now radically changed. I can get a running B motor for free so I want to know if I can simply put the matching parts in my 79 FJ40 H42 or acquire a different gearbox altogether?

So if I can source an H55F I can make it work? Assume an H55F that was behind a 12HT still needs modifications?Input shaft and bearing retainer are different on the F engine and B engine in the 40 series. The H engine is the same as F engine.
Also the H42 gearing is different in the H41. Most diesel have or possible all had the H41 four speed. All H55F shared the same gearing as the H41 of the same time persiod. Would hard to find if no impossible to find a B input shaft (which includes first gear) to fit an H42.
