So Drew has been working on this thing for a longtime and I thought it would be nice to share some photos. I figure since he loves this project and still insists it for me, I would share some pics!!! So far his list of stuff that will go on will be 35" Xterrains, SOA 3/4ton, SBC/700R4/208, x-over PS, family cage(he's bending it out now)....well thats about all he has scribbled down in his progress pad anyway. - Lauren

Hey guys! Anyone have any pointers or suggestions for me? Need some feedback. I keep on thinking I am forgetting something or skipping something everytime I work on it.

You should link some of your photos here. I don't want to sign up to imagestation to look at them.

What pointers are you looking for? You mean like you should get a locker for the rear and duraline the bed,etc. . . .

Well, how do I link them in? I am def. a newbie on that one. I am preping the interior for Durabak. I will be spraying it in. My 71 has the wiper motors interior, and was thinking about changing them outside type. Anyone have any suggestions on that? I am finding too many bends required to clear the motors in my cage. Big question for me right now. I have saved enough to go GM 1ton axles. Should I just beef what I got or go all out, "JUST IN CASE".

It looks like you guys have it pretty well covered. Just keep taking lot's of pics! I like Toyota parts but remember the Toyota axles where built for a 2F straight six motor not a V8! So you might be better off going stronger.

Thanks. I was thinking of doing Longfields with a full locker for both axles. Doing the math though and really just not seeing the benifits now. DO NOT RUN X-Terrains.
They look cool, but are very soft, wear very fast, and puncture very easily. Is not an issue if ALL you do is smooth rock, but who never runs trails other than Moab?

If all you are running is 35's, there is no reason to put on the chevy crap. Longfields and chromos is more than enough to safely run 35's.


*Warning-personal probably unfounded opinion* I HATE chevy automatic trannys. Every GMC my family has ever owned (3 in recent years) has needed a new 4L60E, at least once. Now I know the 700R4 is a (somewhat) different animal, but its still one that I would rather not tangle with.

It is a matter of opinion, a lot of people run 700R4's with very high HP engines without a problem. However, if I had saved a lot of money (as it sounds you have) and was trying to get everything the way I wanted it, I would MUCH prefer a 5/4 speed manual over an auto.


Just my opinion, take it for what you will.

I strongly disagree!

Toy axles will handle a mild small block and 35's very well.

Be sure and plug all the holes you want to keep with old bolts before your durabak...rethreading is a bitch
