Fix Tranny Where Speedo Cable Goes In (1980 FJ40)

Has anyone opened up the tranny after their speedo stopped working? I replaced the cable & gear on the end. May have to go into tranny. Anyone else taken this on?

it's not in the trans.....it's the extension off the rear of the transfer case.

You are correct. Have you ever been into the case to look at a problem like this?

I'd start with the free manuals downloads. I guess the steel gears inside could be worn - have you made sure the speedo head is good.

Is the female threaded where the cable inserts?
