Balls - you have them... I never would've shut that sucker off...

Now, now... As a Statistician, you know the numbers were on my side :)

Everytime I inserted the key, I kept thinking of the mudder who said 98% of the time his Hundy started...

I dunno dude, you seem to be the outlier in the group. You've had 'em all, except...uh... the ignition failure and front diff implosion... Given you're history, I'm ready to estimate a conditional probablility of imminent failure...

I'm about 50K miles ahead of the group... The front diff won't happen to my 00, they were 98-99 2-pin issues.

However, everything that is supposed to happen is happening at a quarter million miles or 400,000 clicks.

Still lots of miles and years to look forward to. My 72 Piggy is still going strong, 00 Hundy is practically brand spanking new to me.

When it happens, not if, then it would be a good time to regear and do the locker thing.

Any other doom and gloom things in store for our high mileage rigs?

At the end of the day, they are one awesome piece of work - let's keep convincing ourselves of this...

So I have been having this issue for the last few weeks. It left my family stranded at the beginning of a week long trip, which resulted in a long tow and a rental of a Ford Edge, so I could mount my bike and box on top. The dealer had it and said they adjusted the contacts on the EFI fuse and it was working but noted if it continued I would want to replace the fuse block. After the vacation it got us home and I was able to drive it for a couple days. I then left it parked for a few days and now it is dead again in my garage and no amount of changed fuses have got it back up and running. So I guess a new fuse block is in my very near future. Anyone know the part number so I can get one ordered? Anyone tried to do this themselves?

2002 would crank but not start. Had it towed 30 miles to nearest Toyota dealer and they pulled it off the flatbed and it started up! They had it for a couple of days but it would always start and they had no advice as to what it may be or what I might do should it happen again. I picked it up drove home and the next morning (today) I had the same problem. Found this page, cleaned up the EFI fuse and it starts!! Thanks for the help. Guess to play it safe I should order and replace the fuse box. I have to say this fix does not make much sense to me. I have worked with many things electrical and why the fuse box itself would cause the problem seems unlikely to me.

This thread is interesting to me as I don't have the problem and hopefully posting here doesn't jinx it but what is a jumper fuse? Where do I get one and what sort of "fuses" should i have on hand to be safe, one of the multi boxes from the autoparts store. I have an 01 with 200k on the clock and all is very tight thus far as po did a wonderful job of main't. Being stranded scares the hell out of me.

Here is all threads i could find on this in one place.

Removing the immobiliser was one of the first mods I did on the Cruza. I know it makes the job easier for the thieves but I didn't want the risk of not being able to start to the truck especially when we travel to some very remote places in Australia that have no cellular communications available. After I removed the connection, I had a warning light on the dash stay on. The warning light on my Cruza happens to be the glow plug light (diesel). To stop this light coming on, you need to remove power from the circuit for about 10 mins. I did that and the light went out pro lem solved.

Just to follow up - I'm still using a jumper in place of my EFI fuse in my 2001 and it's starting fine.

Muzza01, how did you remove the immobilizer? I don't like the thought of being "shut out" from my 100 starting, either. I'd like a simple, start-the-car kind of key rather than a "smart key", thank you very much!

My receiver unit was connected to the back of my diesel injector pump. It is easier to isolate that remove the system. I am not sure where it is on the V8 petrol motor, possibly on the fuel pump.

Thanks muzza01. So your engine hasn't cut off since disabling the immobiliser? That's great!
According to this handy attached info sheet "100 series Transponder Key Diagram", on the V8 gas engine the transponder is part of the engine ECU, so it sounds like unfortunately we can't take the immobilizer offline here in the U.S. These diagrams are useful. If someone has a workaround for the petrol engine, please share!

Follow-up on earlier post. Today the immobilizer struck again and left me immobile!! Anyone have info on disconnecting immobilizer! That is my first choice. Second choice will be replace fuse panel. Any advice on where to obtain and part number ...? Thanks in advance for your help. garry

aedavis are you still using a jumper wire on your EFI in place of the fuse, and how long has it been. I'm going through the same immobilizer problem.

I'm still using the jumper. It's been starting fine - it has been jumpered since August 2013, so nearly two years.

Thanks for the quick response. Did you just improvise on your jumper wire, or did you buy one suited for the purpose, thanks again.

It's just a spade connector, nothing fancy. A wire or paperclip would do the same thing.

I installed a jumper in place of my EFI fuse on May 9th it is June 4th I have had no further problems.
