FlyRod: Any pictures? Do you have stock suspension? I am going to purchase tires in a week and am torn between going with a bigger stock Michelin or trying Revos. I am also going to replace the shocks with Bilsteins.

Any other impressions from making the move from Michelins to Revos? I think the stock shocks and my worn Michelins are contributing to a ride that is not absorbing the bumps very well. I want a better tire and am wondering if going to the 285's will contribute to a stiffer ride and take me in the opposite direction of making the ride more comfortable.
If you want a smoother ride try lower tire pressures, road/passenger tires or new shocks for possible minor improvements, if you want to see major improvement then simply sell the large, heavy, solid axle, 4wd SUV you bought and get a passenger car.;) I bet you won't find a more aggressive, or better looking tire that is also more comfortable than a stock size road tire.

I plan on doing a thing or two [mods] once my newborn gets a little bigger. I am trying to make it more comfortable for the kiddies and myself for the time being. I just drove Ali's with 315's and it drove better than my stock. He had Geo's and Bilstein shocks.

Ary, you driving 10K miles per month?

you must have some interesting gas bills to show for this....

I am still trying to decided between Revo's and BFG AT's.

I pick up my cruiser on friday and will have tires put on right away.
What would you guys pick?

I drive on all types of surface. My cruiser will be a daily driver/expedition truck.
They will have to handle all types of conditions, both on and off road.
I loves spending time in snow, and on the trails. Not really into rocks or deep mud. But if mud is in the way I will go through it.

So would love to hear more Revo/BFG owner comparisons.

Thanks,
Nick

 I meant last year as in 2004, still not adjusted to the fact that it's 2006 now.

I do spend about $60-70 a week on gas :frown: Filled up this morning for $51, and it'll probably last me till Friday. I've been averaging 25-30k miles a year for the past 5 years.

Nickw, I have owned 2 sets of BFG ATs and although there performance was always good, I have been blown away by the Revo's. They work a noticeable amount better on snow/ice/rain. Their mud performance is decent(haven't gotten stuck yet), especially for an AT type tire. I have TORTURED my sidewalls and they have yet to blow up, bulge, or do anything else on me.

IMO, if you want a true utility tire that is still an excellent road tire, the REVO is the best pick. In bigger sizes that the REVO is unavailable in(315s) I would go to my second pick, the BFG AT.

Edit: For reference, I have also run GY MTR's, BFG MT's, and TSL Radials on my old truck.

The usage your are describing speaks more to an entry level offroad tire that is still nice onroad. Think Trxus, Toyo MT, MTR (for dry climates), etc.

You sound like you will wheel alone, in which case better rubber is your best friend.

The BFG needs its own tire FAQ. I'll start:

Pros:

Good tread depth for an AT
Decent tread life (if you don't wheel them too hard)
Good rock tire for an AT
(IMO, the 3 ply sidewall is a marketing issue...I knew a guy who worked in a tire shop who stopped buying BFG's in favor of two ply designs that were stronger)

Cons:

Priced like an MT
Horrible lateral traction
Will scare you badly on hardpack snow
Freezes like an all season in very cold temps
Adequate rain performance
Will get somewhat noisy as you chunk and round the outer lugs

Nay
