Firing up a 2F that's been sitting for about a year and a half...

Ahhh ha...I see that. I'll take a peak at it and see if it just isn't snugged up to the block. I know the previous owner started about 20 different projects on the rig, and most are in various states of completion. I think I recall seeing the headers and carburetor swap as one of them. Thanks again John!

Looking at that gaping crevasse that John pointed out and not really having any reliable history of that motor for yourself...I'd go over everything twice to make sure things are where they are supposed to be and properly torqued. Pull the valve cover and the oil pan. Check valve clearences, check torque on rods and mains...make sure oil pump is installed and seated. After you do the drill/primer thing..make sure you re-seat the distrib properly. Remove any dead mice or other vermin found. Take your time and check it all out.

Re: the carb question. Keep the original on there, changing out to a weber will bring a host of other "things" that will have to be considered...for example discontinuing the fuel return line...changing out the fuel pump...and adding an in-line fuel pressure regulator. Best advice, if the original carb is not working is either have JimC rebuild it or like was said above get one from Troll.

Good luck

Oh one last thing...where you at ? One of us knuckleheads on here may live close by and if bribed with  could come and give it an eyeball.

Thanks Todd! I'm just south of Portland, OR.

As I peel back the layers on this thing, I just find more beautiful things to deal with:)

I have the humble remains of a 76 piggie in NW Portland....and I am scheduled to be in Portland week of March 15. What would life be without little surprises

No kidding. What kind of beer do you prefer? If the timing works out I'd be happy to host you in my lovely garage and a beverage of your choice (pending background investigation:).

Probably best to hide the women, children, small furry critters and any livestock that cannot either run fast or is easily coherced :grinpimp: Looking at my usual Portland trip...I'd say Wednesday late afternoon of that week would be my only window of opportunity. As far as beverages...geez you guys out there brew up many good hoppy beverages. After several of which, I can no longer recall the names of many of them. As long as they are hoppy, I'm good. I'll shoot you a PM.
