Water is back on! Maybe my phone calls helped get the right people talking.

Wind is picking up a lot - mostly from the south.

Power is back on now also. Saw a drop from the DC-10 a bit earlier.

Was just Reading on Rising Sun that Jeff Stemas Lost his house in the fire. :frown: He is our CAo4WDC south representative that came to talk to us about joining the association. So sad.

Yea, I think the list they've released on the number of homes lost is significantly understated. It will probably double. Some areas that I know have significant losses (neighbors friend recognized house on TV) are not on the current list. I have several friends, and the kids friends who don't know if their house is still standing.

Back at the house. Most of the action is on the north end but fire is still burning right up against Burgess near Volmer. Chinnook did a drop right in front of me a bit ago and a blackhawk just went over low enough to rattle the windows.

Eric I'm hoping from the pictures that everything is ok at your place. I know you're right there in that area.

Yea, things are looking pretty good on the southern front. Went in to work today. Know at least two of the families that lost their homes, and knew the two people who died as well (hasn't been announced yet, but all the dots connect).

We've been very lucky - a change in the wind could have easily wiped us out. Still could I guess.

Drove up Herring road along Section 16 tonight. Was a ground fire in here - at least as much of it as I could see. Still, a lot of the small to mid size trees were all brown - I guess from the heat. Anybody know if these will come back? Or are they just as dead as the ones that burnt?

Here's an interesting PDF on the subject. Looks like Ponderosa pines are pretty resistant to low intensity fires, but have a hard time surviving a high intensity blaze.

The kids loved going to the playground at the black forest park. I'm assuming that whole area it gone. :frown:

Interesting - thanks. Think I found my answer:

"Trees will seldom put out new vegetation if more then If more than 80% of buds or needles are killed".

That's to bad - in driving past there while it was still burning underneath, I was thinking it was cool that it wasn't up in the trees. But looks like we'll lose most of them anyway.

Ok, I've had enough damn excitement for awhile. House across the street caught fire - pretty much fully involved. Luckily I hadn't unpacked most of the stuff from last week. Haven't actually left, and it looks like they have it under control now. Lots of equipment out front. Last one is a 1961 deuce and a half fitted out as a brush truck - very cool.

Walked over there with the neighbor last night. Place is a duplex and all of it is damaged, but one half is basically gutted. Apparently started in a light switch.

Talk about ironic in a bad way. Glad it didn't spread.
