Just purchased a 2022 gx460 luxury with the sport appearance package and all. Only 16k miles! My third gx! U can find one if u keep looking. The lux versions are harder to find but out there. Definitely check the carfax

Mine has been in 2 , one before me and the other with me , minor accidents . but still.
All is fine .

Not counting wheeling hyjinx mine has been in three, but have not bent any sheet metal.

Context matters. I would consider a car thats been in multiple accidents after they just affected plastics.

After my 50mph t boned incident, anything that affects crumpled zones or air bags is a hard no.

  • 2015, 105k miles
  • Oregon car (I live in California)
  • No accidents on the Carfax
  • Decent service history (as far as I can tell)
  • No evidence of leaks (yet)
  • Minor frame rust present but manageable
  • A bunch of 100K+ work I would have done anyways was done at this dealer before listing (fluids checked + flushed, belts done, brakes done, etc.) which was a big motivator
  • Rear bumper colour match on driver side is off (obviously repainted)
    • No evidence of damage otherwise so it wasn't a deal breaker - Doesn't bother me
    • There isn't actually a clear line between repainted and original IRL, probably just the lighting

I saw this one pop up on a Lexus dealer website on a Friday evening and immediately pulled the Carfax. Drove over the next Saturday morning to go look at it, dug around under a lift for like an hour to check out the usual suspects, then bought it on the spot after some deliberation.

Lessons learned:
  • You have to move fast on the good ones in Central-ish California. There seems to be surprisingly strong demand for these. I saw someone else come in to look at it not even 30 mins after I got there. Also, anecdotally, other promising listings seemed to become unavailable pretty fast
  • The people buying these seem to know what they are looking at - The good ones seem to get picked over pretty fast here. A lot of the ones I looked at over the last ~6 months that were on the market for a while seemed to have clear issues or flaws
  • Waiting it out is definitely worth it, but reminding myself of what my exact must-have / nice-to-have criteria are were helpful in motivating me to make a decision
I've been driving the car for a few days now and so far I'm super stoked on it. It's not perfect and there are a bunch of quality-of-life things I want to do (transmission cooler, rust proofing, etc.), but so far so good.

Sooner or later people will realize the gx460 is the best of all worlds. Its not a lc or lx but its darn close. Values of these will hold. Best year to get one is obviously a newer one (22 or 23) but the old ones are just the same with less modern tech. They are built like tanks!.

Congrats on your new rig! Sounds like you snagged a sweet deal.
With all due respect, why bother with rust protection?
I live half way between L.A. and San Diego, about 150 feet from the beach. I've had my GX over 6 years and there's only the slightest surface rust anywhere.
My opinion, either save your money or spend it on some other "goodies" for your GX. Just my .02¢

My GX went through 9 Iowa winters and has minimal rust

There is a bit of surface rust on the frame that I don’t want to spread and I spend a lot of time in the mountains (esp. in the winter), but I might also be being a bit paranoid about it because I’m from the PNW where roads are salted + it’s wet AF

Interesting. Here on east coast the salt really does a number on the frames. Always check underneath. Avoid getting the leased ones u never know wth the driver did since they didnt own and probably didnt care much. Mine happened to be from NYC and was pristine underneath and looks like owner tried to deck it out. Minor dings but otherwise mostly city driving and engine is fully broken in. Rest are going to be driven mostly highway miles. I would never get a used car from NYC area otherwise. But the gx is an exception and built for 300 k miles min.

A couple cans of Woolwax or Fluid Film Black should do the trick. Works just fine in Midwestern salt for me, and it's inexpensive.

This is a vehicle to not buy unless u want to remove all that rust already forming. Only 12 k i think on odometer and a leased vehicle now being sold. Eff that

Waxoyl is better. Gl to all buying a used gx. Hopefully able to help

I haven't used Waxoyl, but FF inside the frame and Woolwax outside it has done great in my rig. I applied in 2021 and again in 2024. It now has a nice coating everywhere and nothing has rusted (other than new parts I've put on and didn't coat).
