Old pins came out easy enough.
You can see what was left of the old bushing as compared to the new one.
Nice and tight with no play. Door latches well with no adjustment of the striker needed.
New hood/windshield rest pads.
With the weather getting warm, I wanted to get the vent below the windshield working. The old rancher had caulked it shut. Found a new aftermarket gasket for it from Spector. Time to cut away all the caulking and get that vent working again.
Lots of caulking and old dried-out gasket to cut out.
The small skinny piece of metal at the bottom of the photo is what I call the valance. It has small bolts on the back side that mount thru the windshield just above the vent flap. The small holes along the edge of the new rubber gasket mount thru the small valance bolts and are held in place by small nuts on this inside of the windshield frame. The actual vent flap sandwiches the rest of the rubber gasket between its interior steel plate and outer steel flap/vent. The bigger holes in the rubber gasket is where it bolts together in that sandwich. The screens are in good shape with just a little tear here and there.
The opening mechanism. Fine thread on the interior side where the knob mounts and a very course thread forward of that which allows the vent flap to open without much turning of the opening knob.
Gonna replace all the hardware for this part of the project. Lots of small bolts and screws that were challenging to remove. Discovered that the defroster vents actually screwed directly to the directional metal pieces at the bottom edge of the windshield. Was able to remove them by dropping them straight out of the bottom of the dash.
Backside of the vent flap that the opening knob linkage attaches too.
Waiting to be masked off and painted.
Spent some time on the vent project after work tonight.
