I'm restoring my 86 Runner right now. I want to put the rubber fender flares on instead of the chrome trim pieces. It appears from the rust on the fenders the chrome trim pieces actually hold mud, water, etc and actually speed the rusting process.
Has anybody used the rubber trims from J.C. Whitney to make their own fender flares. Bushwackers look great but are real pricey.

Have you made your own flares?

BB,

I'm buying quarter panels from him. I have two front fenders that will probably stay metal. I kinda like the look of the bushwackers though. They no longer sell anything for this truck that is not cutout.

I may go with the JC whitney stuff. If I do I'll post pics here.

Hay baler belts would work nicely and many are 4" to 6" wide. They are also desinged to handle a rough environment with allot of abrasion.

It is also possible to get used conveyor belts.

For those that don't have supplies locally, McMaster-Carr sells a wide range of sizes and types.
