I've been told that the next set will be ready by Thursday. As soon as the first kit is shipped I will have accurate shipping info to use for the 2nd listing.

After this 2nd set it may be a few weeks before set #3 is ready while I work on sourcing a better deal for hardware and gaskets. Set #4 will directly fit 93-97 style mud flaps.

for others not in the know, FRP (fibreglass replacement panels) make fibreglass flares Fibreglass Replacement Panels | FRP | Wheel Arch Flares | Body Panels | Overhead Consoles | Battery Trays | Australia
They even make 125mm wide ones: http://www.frp.com.au/prodimages/80 Dust Wide Flares.jpg
Or just replacement factory style ones: http://www.frp.com.au/prodimages/80 Factory Front.jpg

My fzj80 came with an invoice at purchase for GXL style fibreglass flares from a TJM store here in AUS. I do not know if they are still available.

Not related to any of the above buisnesses...

If anyone is interested in these flares outside of the available shipping area contact me and we can discuss shipping. Here is the link to the new posting on ebay.

Interested in the gasket. Same shape as OEM?

I thought there were 3 different kind of flare widths. 91-92, 93-94 and 95 and above.

Have you researched the widths and are positive a 93-97 flare will fit all models. (will fit in molded mudflaps...etc..)

Or I'm I mistaken on my recollection?

I was asking around for a 94 flare a while back and this was the answer I was given when trying to purchase a specific flare.

BTW: the new link to ebay is not working

Mud flaps from 93-97 fit the same. 91-92 flares fit the same. 91-92 flares are a bit more narrow and bolt up to 91-92 flaps. 93-94 flares are fiberglass (thanks Beno) and 95-97 flares are plastic.

So 93-97 flaps bolt up to 93-97 flares, but 93/94 flares aren't exactly the same as 95-97 flares.

Both versions of the pocket flares fit the bodies of all 80 series trucks. Either style of the two mud flap styles can be modified to fit either style of pocket flares, but for purely bolt on application you should buy 91-92 flares to fit 91-92 flaps and 93-97 flares to fit 93-97 flaps.

Thanks for the heads up on the link. It's fixed ;)

Got it!

Can you get shipping estimates for USPS instead of UPS.

I will be interested on the 93+ versions when they get done. But at the moment UPS shipping to PR would cost over $400...!!!

Sinice UPS considers PR as international... LOL

Anyways USPS knows we are Domestic and it does not cost any more to ship to PR than it does to ship to any other state, and there are no forms to fill out either!

Anyways my zipcode is 00961, but if you have looked up shipping to any other states I'm sure it will be the same to PR.

Just need to know about how much the shipping would be, to start a fund raiser. :D

Or if you give me a rough estimate of the box dimmensions and your zip I can get the estimate myself from the web interface at http://postcalc.usps.com/
Choose Parcel Post as its the cheapest! :) I'm assuming less than $50

I will work with you to get the cheapest shipping possible. Be aware that this is a weird, large box mainly because the front flare is long. Dimensions are roughly 50"x 26"x 14". They may end up a tad longer due to the slight difference in size from 91/92 to 93-97.

OK that should work out at about $100 for USPS.

I did a rough calculation at 50lbs

It gives me a guestimated shipping, which is all I need for now.

Thanks!

Not that its particularly helpful to you at the moment...

But if you came out with a 93-97 model that were ~2 inches wider than stock on each side I would be all over that in a heartbeat.

So if you end up with some extra R&D budget lying around... ;)

Me too on the wider set.

2 inches wider would be a significant modification. A 3rd version would only be possible if the first two versions sell enough and if enough people were interested in the wider flare, but I will take a closer look at that and some other possibilities in the future.

Patent Trolls

Patents only protect a product if the improvement of the existing product is novel (original) and not an obvious evolution of current designs. Being that Bushwacker has been making pocket flares for years I doubt your friends patent is legit because it is not novel unless there is some demonstrable design improvement over Bushwacker's design. Just because no one has made pocket flares to fit 80's in North America doesn't mean the first guy to make pocket flares gets a patent. Patents only apply to new and innovative ideas.

The current set of flares are satin black. I'll get pictures of the flares in the new color up soon. Here is the current set at a lower price. Shipping isn't cheap, but local pick up in San Antonio or Austin would be free.

Still looking like the end of summer for the first set of 93-97 style flares, but they are coming along.

I would love to have a set for my 96. I saw Ur eBay auctions starts at 850. That's a little rich for my blood. Plus, I'll prolly rip these off every time I hit the trail. If you ever come up with a low cost way to make these I'd be all over it.

Thanks for the compliment. $600 is a very good deal and I won't be able to continue making these for very long at that price. It's not worth the money, time and effort. Once I go through the first batch of materials I may have to retire the moulds due to lack of interest. But I'm ok with that. I'll at least have a set for myself and I'll make a few sets for those that are interested enough to pay for them.

I don't know how much it would cost but have you thought of doing maybe injection molding with a durable rubber/plastic mix? To be honest I wouldn't even know where to start but I just have a feeling that a more pliable, rubbery flare that could be easily reattached would sell very well. If I recall you're making these out of fiberglass? I've worked with it before and it's a PITA so I don't blame you for the high price. I'm sure supplies aren't cheap and they take a lot of work to make. The do look nice though.
