This is a very sad day. My dad and I bought a 1964 FJ40 from Danny Warden some years ago in California and trailered it back to Texas. Long story short, after some minor changes and a bit of tuning, I decided I would drive it from my dad's house to my house. It's about a 180 mile trip. I made it about 70 miles and the Pontiac 389 under the hood overheated. I cooled it off for about an hour and back tracked about 20 miles. Overheated again, so I called my dad to come with the trailer. Bring it home and find out there's no compression in the 2nd cylinder. Ring and piston... It runs strong the way it is. We drove it home from the shop and it ran the like it always has. Our mechanic, thinks it's been like this ever since we bought it and has maybe gotten a little worse. You could keep it the way it is, but you won't be able to drive long distances. If you wanted to drive it all day in Moab, you probably want to think about overhauling the engine or getting a new one.
My dad is sending pictures in the next couple of days. I asked him to take a video of it running and driving too.
But here's what I know about it:
1964 Toyota Land Cruiser
No rust to speak of (some very minor surface rust spots)
Odo. doesn't work. Was built 14 years ago and was basically brand new then.
Custom front bumper
Custom rear tire swing + jerry can/cooler carrier
Custom rock sliders/step
Paint in decent condition (was planning on re-painting the fiberglass top)
Custom roll cage with brand new CD player, iPod adapter, speakers (all of which are marine grade and waterproof), and CB Radio integrated into it
Leather bucket seats and rear bench seat all in incredible condition
Tuffy center console (pretty new)
Later model windshield with wipers on the bottom
Vinyl top that snaps to the roll cage
Pontiac 389 - runs strong, but no compression in 2nd cylinder
SM420 heavy duty 4 speed transmission
Custom made Danny Warden transfer case (I've heard these things used to be THE STUFF!)
I don't know what gears he put in
I'm not exactly sure what all he did with the suspension. It sits high enough for VERY LIGHTLY used 37" Toyo Open Country M/T's to fit with absolutely no problem
No body lift
Aux. Fuel tank (I believe it holds around 40-45 gallons of fuel with both tanks)
Power steering
Power disc brakes (90% sure it's discs all around)
Doors and hardtop would be included, but aren't on right now.
I have a few odds and ends that would go
Quadrajet carb. AND Holly Truck Avenger (Truck Avenger is currently installed)
Price is $10,000.
If there's something I missed or if something doesn't sound right, let me know. I'd be interested in trading for a Chevy truck or a dual sport bike + cash. But I'm willing to hear anything out.
Pictures are each at least a year apart. The last one is right before it for the last time...
