@03max88 , I don't want to minimize what you are feeling, because no matter how you slice it, being faced with those issues will sour you for a long time, so apologies for that. I just think its important to put things into perspective.

And there is definitely a Lexus tax when it comes to repairs, but it should be noted that valley plate leaks are not unique to the LX. Any indy mechanic that works on toyotas could fix 2 and 3 for less than that. The amp issue sucks because it is not an easy or cheap fix. It is a complicated system.

I would again reiterate that while these happen, they are not all that common, but when they do, they are amongst the more expensive repairs. But, once repaired (assuming a good job), then you could drive your truck for another 200k with nothing but standard maintenance. At least until your radiator gets a hairline crack ;)

When that happens, we will all be more than happy to commiserate with you.

100% this. Indy specialist ESPECIALLY if you have a LC. they never even see those at the dealer.

I have a couple around me in Austin, and i knew of a couple in Houston. They are all over the place it would seem.

While these engine leak repairs are less prevalent with the 200 series the 5.7 is well documented, especially with the Tundras, to have the aforementioned oil and coolant leaks. Some even experienced oil leaks at the cam tower and timing cover before the first oil change with their Tundras.
I bought my LC used with over 80,000 miles so I knew i would have some things pop up. I currently have a very minor seep at the timing cover or it could be from the front of the cam tower. It is so minimal that it doesnt need to be addressed. How bad is your oil leak that was discovered?

I had the coolant valley leak repaired last month at 105,000 miles and had my mechanic take a look at the timing cover and he even said dont bother repairing it or even worrying about it.

Once these issues are addressed you will be good to go.

Speaking of Tundra's, I drove an 06 for over 400,000 miles (I know a different engine) with no engine or transmission issues. I now drive a 2017 Tundra with 180,000 miles on it, no cam tower leak or any other kind of leak. 18 months ago, in my search for another LC, I had a 2011 LX570 show up prior to going to auction. 141,000 miles, very clean car so I rolled the dice and got it. I know it has a very small leak rear main seal which we are monitoring, and thanks to this great website and people I knew to watch the radiator, and replaced it at 155,000 miles. You have a great foundation to build on. Pick your poison and take them one at a time. You will get years of enjoyment out of that vehicle.

I had an amp fail. It was a pita. But with some work have replaced with much upgraded SQ and SPL. Even with messing up as I discovered the way I don’t have $2k in it.
There is also an android solution on Ali express which includes a replacement amp, it was around $1000

Whoa. Hadn't seen that HU option. Is that a new product on the market? Seems to have lots of qualities focused on sound quality? Does that bypass the amp under the seat?

This forum is going to bankrupt all of us.

Teck, the guy with all the mods, oooo shiny! LOL

As I read it, and based on the advert pictures, it comes with a separate, replacement amp for under the seat. I haven't talked to the vendor to verify. There was another similar advert a few months ago, same HU but the ad copy was slightly different, probably just a different vendor take on it.
This one has Android 10 at least.

edit - > Got the link updated for a regular browser -> definitely a replacement amp is provided, it has quite a bit of detail on it in the listing.

Hahaha. Cheaper hobby than many other vice's out there?

Or is it? I should be spending all my extra time in the altcoin/investing hobby.

That sucks and i agree we need to be vocal on things like this. I just can’t corroborate the frequency of these issues nor do i know the cause.

BTW I also had horrible treatment with lexus corporate despite all the family being in the brand.

Its also important for people to know the 200 does have its slight issues but more importantly the repairs are costly and most parts are pricey.

Also a good point that T is not the only reliable brand. Problem with others is just their consistency. I watch some car wizard vids on YT and he will outline huge differences in one model year updates on many platforms.
I'm awaiting Wizard's review on an LX570, he did do an LX470.

I mean, i have actual problems and wayyyy too many hobbies.
Here is where im posting from, this doesn't even include the personal audio gear. This is me trying super duper hard not to go bonkers.
Currently playing with some new planars and need to upgrade my amp AGAIN, it's not the little one under the cubby to the left anymore.
Now add tools, any gaming, guns, emergency preparedness...
This vehicle is going to be paced out.

I invested from a young age here and there, but i am out now for various personal reasons.
Personal detail aside i watch markets daily. And i would not buy any crypto right now LOL. Bitcoin is still getting clobbered today.

I challenge you to find another platform that allows you to drop $5k every 130k miles and gets the vehicle running like brand new for another 130k. Sometimes the repairs add up but every time I replace with oem parts on an LC I know it resets the clock another 100k or so. This platform will last 25 plus years with this type of maintenance. Not many others can say the same.

Here is how I look at it. Lets say that you are standing at one end of Big Pine/Death Valley Rd and you have to travel the 60 or so miles to get your family to safety. You have the keys to the following Luxury SUVs that are lined up in front of you:

Infiniti QX80
Range Rover
Lincoln Navigator (or whatever Ford)
Mercedes-Benz G550
Cadillac Escalade (or whatever GM)
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Lexus LX570

Each is 10 years old with 130k on the speedo. You don't know anything about their service records. Which do you put your family in and drive away?

Very compelling point. I know it can handle pretty much anything except a steep rear departure angle, lol. Like I said earlier, this is my first intro to the 200/201 series. So the repairs have had me on the fence about selling and trading up to a 13-15 LC or going with a 13-14 Raptor. I know one thing, whoever buys my LX will have a fully sorted vehicle for sure. I hope the values appreciate on these like similar 100 series LX’s with more miles.

Very nice setup. Working on my work from home dream job where I can have it like this. I see the Bose 2.1 surround too. I almost invested in Ethereum but held off. I know it’s risky business.

My leak was very small, but the valve covers and valley plate were well enough to cause nausea. I just stepped out and did all 3 for peace of mind, it’s the perfectionist in me.

Thanks for that! Lol, I’ll honestly probably drive her for just a few more miles and then see what I could sell her for. I’m sure I won’t be leaving the 200 Toyota/Lexus family just yet. ;)
