Double wrench it!!!

You can get gear wrenches from just about any decent auto parts stores, or I think that Junk found them online someplace for a steal of a price a while back...

PM him.

I'll try Pep Boys tomorrow and get with him if I have trouble. Don't want to keep him from scouring the internet for more pictures

Sears and NAPA have them.

Steve, I am not sure what you mean by Double Wrenching. Can you elaborate?

Box end of wrench one on fastener.

Hook box end of wrench two in open mouth of wrench one.

Grab two wrenches and you will figure it out, hell, I did.

Good luck!

-Steve

Gotcha.
Think I've done it before.

Dude,

He is an EE, cut him some slack, and give him some credit too....

Most E people never get thier hands dirty on anything that they design, let alone something else, hence why working on just about anything is always so much fun!

Thanks Steve. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an easier way before I risked breaking the bolt. I am confident I can get it off. I have begun to consider the people here my friends and was just checking with my "cruiser buddies" before going back out and hitting it.

I to have taken several starter off vehicles including my 73 FJ40, just never ran into this clearance porblem.

I would have kept working on it and probably got it off, but it was late and I wanted to see what new pictures Junk had posted.

??? I had the same problem on my 77 2F. The top bolt was 19mm and nothing could go there (even gearwrench) I had to fabricate a custom wrench (grind a new wrench ;) ) A real PITA!!!! but it worked....

Fawking A Bubba. Gear Wrenches, Who would have thought. I gotta hang out at the hardware store more often. Bought a set, used the 17MM and got the starter off in just a couple of minutes.

It just shows that it pays to risk looking stupid to find out there is a better tool for the job. Having the right tool always makes things easier.

Thanks Steve and Dave for your Help.

And Orange 40 :flipoff2:

I didnt like them at 1st but then I swaped(from the standard) to a set of the flexhead Gear Wrenchs and LOVE them, got the 8mm-19mm set, bought as a repo(as new) from the Snap On man :)
