Smit - sorry I haven't returned your call. Nuts at work and bad news from my physical yesterday.

In laws are in town this weekend, so won't be able to play.

So, is this still a go for wheelin somewhere? I did Cleghorn about 2 1/2 months ago. It was a blast. I'd be down for that, and it's close, at least for me. But seriously, anywhere is good.

I wanna wheel too . . .

Truckhaven is probably going to be 100°+. HOT!

It would be a little farther away, but some of the guys on ADV4x4 just ran a trail in Jamul that looked like a blast.

Could explore Julian in addition to this . . .

I've run that trail. It can be pretty challenging in spots if you choose the right line.

I may be up for it depending on what my procrastinating parents decide to do for father's day.

I could be talked into that area. According to Google, it is 20 miles closer to Redondo than Anza. Looks like more freeway too.

So let's do Jamul Area. I can try to find out the trail (s) details unless some of you already know where they are. I would say let's try to be on at the trail head by 10:00 am for a couple of reasons: we get to wheel some before it gets really hot and I don't have to get up at 4am in order to make it down super early. What do you guys think? If anyone knows of a place to meet up (i.e. local gas station near trails) then post up. Who is in with me? As usual I am up for a caravan.

I'll ride shotgun Smitt....... I'm def. up for this itching to get away!!!!!!

Directions to Carveacre Trail (Pancake Rock):

From El Cajon (I8 & 67)

Go east on I8 about 21 miles. At Japatul Rd. (Exit 40) go south approximately 4.5 miles to Lyons Valley Rd. Continue south on Lyons Valley Rd. approximately 4.5 Miles to the entrance to Barret Correction Facility. Air down at the open area near the entrance. Continue on Lyons Valley Rd. south approximately 1 mile. The trailhead will be a very sharp right as you round a curve.

Caution:

When turning off of Lyons Valley Rd, the trail immediately becomes very rough. Vehicles need to immediately go into 4 WD as you turn off Lyons Valley Road. There is only enough room at the trailhead for 2 or 3 vehicles and the trailhead is in a dangerous curve. Vehicles should be spaced out to avoid problems at the trailhead.

I've only run the trail from the Pine Valley side but the preferred meeting place is the Carls Jr. off of the Tavern rd exit (off of the 8 in Alpine). Is that the direction you guys plan on going? If so, you can drive right by the trailhead very easily as it's on a windy road and requires that you turn around as soon as you leave pavement.

I still don't know if I'm in yet. Here's a pic of the trailhead as I was leaving as well Pancake Rock (lunch spot) and the trail

Edit: damn you guys made some thread progress while I was typing this out

Remember you can't go all the way through anymore. There is a fun area past Pancake rock and to the left at the large dirt area....but it is tight with manzanita and other paint abusive trees.

I will be camping in Julian with the family...have fun

Smitty, I'm right off the 405 and harbor in Costa Mesa. Do you want to caravan down? There is a gas station right off the 405 at Harbor we could meet there. If we need to be at the trailhead at 10, we would need to leave the gas station at 7:30 just to be safe.

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make it. I have a hall pass but the rig is still running too hot for my liking. I've swapped the clutch, radiator, stat etc. but it's still running 215 on a 100 degree day with the air on. I'm going to try to change the water pump tomorrow and see if that helps but if it doesn't I'm out until I figure it out. I put an aftermarket temp gauge in so it verified my suspicions about running hot.

Am I the only one that's thinking about getting a tire up on that old rusted car for a pic?
P.S. have fun Marc
