Fan clutch solves overheating

One thing that I do like is the fan mount studs are threaded into the rear housing, so if the screws that hold the housings together came loose the fan wont fall off. Other than that it's a POS!

looks like more shearing area than the blue to me. All alone the outer edge with the exception of the 8 notches.

But still, with that much material it had to be self destructing.

Did you wash it out or just toss it?

Look at the front housing again, it is only close at the very edge. Tossing it.

We also did a couple of 3FE's one in a FJ62 and one FJ80. They looked to be close to the same, both had been replaced at some point. They were both plain (unpainted) hubs and had the early blue hub type design, adjustable valves and lots of shearing grooves, very nice units.

Our local Toyota Steelership quoted me $20 per tube for the 08816-10001. That motivated me to try the Napa sourced Hayden clutch. I will do a test run up the pass before and after the install and post the results.

Thanks for the write up!

Edit: completed the following: new hoses, belts, Napa Hayden clutch, flush with distilled h20, refill with toy red.

The results? Amazing! Tuesday I drove the truck up the Siskiyou Summit. Temps ran up to 206 when I turned the a/c off to help drop the temps. Outside temps were much the same as today. Today I ran up the pass again holding much the same speeds. With the a/c on temps topped out at 193! All temps are off of my scanguage.

If you are running a little hot I highly recommend performing this series of maintenance!
