Still digging through my photo archive, but anyone recognize these crusty rubber grommets?

Based on where I had them stored, I think they're for the windshield area...but not seeing them on any parts diagrams offhand.

Those look like shock or spring bushings. Never seen those around the windshield.

Hm, they do look like shock bushings, but pretty sure those all got chucked as the shackles were pretty toasted. Perhaps a couple stragglers did survive into the stash, but seems odd based on where they were stored...they were with all the windshield and firewall stuff. (Things like the wiper wire grommet, and the under-windshield rubber) 🤔

Strange for sure, big for anything around the windshield.

Back to sandblasting the last few parts...trans tunnel, fuel tank cover, spare tire carrier, etc. Need to figure out a plan for the spare tire carrier hinges, but more to come there. Managed to salvage the latching clasp...was wondering if it would clean up under that degree of rust.

Cleaned up the gas tank as well, was hoping it'd be serviceable as the bottom was in good shape. But...ye olde sodium chloride got around the filler neck where the tub filler door rotted out,and it's got a thin patch in the corner. I'll likely hit it with primer for now and repair it later for a spare...ordered up a new one from Uncle Toyota.

Got a lot of the small black parts painted...poured rain, so couldn't nip the trans tunnel with the white body color.

Ripped out some new bushings for the spare tire carrier, though...should do the deed. Making another set using the cream/off-white PETG, should match the body color a bit better.

And I never knew there was an odometer of sorts in the speedo driven EGR timer dealio...strange little nugget in there.

Great work, something every day. You have the STL file for the bushings?

Another day, another dollar...you must run out of parts to disassemble and clean at some point, right??

Shot the last of the Cygnus, just have the fiberglass hardtop left to shoot. Finally getting this clear dialed in, this last batch laid down very nicely. Letting things cure tomorrow while the storms blow through, then hopefully lots of re-assembly this weekend. Fuel tank should be delivered tomorrow, and once that's in and the fuel tank and trans tunnel covers can go in, a lot of the other pieces for the interior can drop in.

Just a few brackets to make for the Sniper install as well, and some good old brake and clutch bleeding, and then the front clip is getting darn close to going on as well.

Getting there...

You're probably not going to want paint on those contacts... 😭

Working on the fuel system...anyone have any info on the routing out from the fuel separator to the charcoal canister? Mine had a hard line that ran near the running boards on the outboard side of the frame, but I'm not sure how it routed into the tub. The CCOT tub doesn't have that hole punched, and my old floorboards were, er, gone in that area.

It seems like it'd run through that boxed section of the floor pan, but I'd also rather not have any more holes than one needs in that piece. 🤔

Finally landed on a search that helped - "mounting" got some pictures. Does seems like it goes through that boxed section...but I might see if I have clearance to avoid that particular path - I need to bend up a new hardline anyway. Guess we'll see.

Evening project - the transfer case boot was worn/torn, so decided to make a new boot for it. It's not 100% the same as the original, but I used some scraps from the old, torn original seat covers to crank out a new one. It'll match the door cards, and it's a bit of nostalgia to reuse some of the old seat covers that we bounced around on when the rig was newer.

Engine bay all tidied up, pretty much everything done other than that heater box, and it's ready for reassembly tomorrow. Going to bleed the brakes and clutch as well while there's extra room, and then the front clip *should* be able to go on. Starts with the key again, which is nice to have...starts very quick with the Sniper+Hyperspark as well. I did keep the two harnesses pretty isolated, essentially left with a body/chassis harness and an engine harness (Holley), and the only real join point is the 12v switched, which I used the old igniter/coil lead.

Managed to save the spare carrier hinges and latches as well...they were pretty rough to start with, wasn't sure what I'd have left after sandblasting.

Beautiful.
I’m envious of the quality and quantity of your work. Can’t wait to see it all come together!

Rear heater lines all redone, I used silicone firesleeve to replace the worn/aged foam. In theory, it should hold up a bit better as well, yet still hold the heat in. You do need a little bit in 3/4/19m for the front heater lines, then the rear is that 15mm:

Factory lines were still good, complete with 1975 date marks...it's interesting which parts hold up, the orange rubber throttle boot was also remarkably good. Front heater box is all tucked in too...looking to button up the fuel tank, and then front heater and seats can start going in...

Fuel tank is all back in, including all the lines...engine runs from the tank again, which is nice. Fresh new pewter parts also back in...the basement stash of parts is getting smaller and smaller. Gauge cluster, ashtray, and glove box are getting some compound and polish tonight, should be able to go back in tomorrow along with the dash pads.

Clutch is bled and working, front brakes are bled...rears still to go, but waiting on some fittings until Tuesday. Heater is all back in, which means the cooling circuit is buttoned up, so I'll be able to fill and burp the system tomorrow.

Working on an adapter for the OEM air filter...found a thick aluminum pot in the right size at the thrift shop for $1, looks like it'll do the trick. Thanks Rachel Ray...who knew she made performance parts?
