I’m restoring a 1/79 FJ40 and was wondering if this overspray (and other overspray I’ve seen on other 40s and parts and pieces for sale online) is factory or if my cruiser has been painted again and the American body shop wasn’t as careful as the Japanese.

NOT factory
In all the factory assembly line videos I has seen they are all bare from anything but body parts … they weren’t on the frame at that point either
Taiichi Ohno would never have let that happen either… that would be inferior quality … he was retired by 79’ but was a consultant to toyota especially when there was question of Kaizen … he would periodically walk the shop floors … would not let efficiency over power the balance to high quality
